WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THIS WEBSITE?
MinnesotaBoxing.com is website made for MN boxing fans by a MN boxing fan. That fan would be me...Jesse Kelley. My first memory of a Minnesota fight was when I was 12 years old. It took place at a fancied up parking lot on Saint Paul's Rice Street. Mike Evgen, Rice Street's own gave a beating to a Wisconsin journeyman named William Betts.
That was in 1990 and it would be another 11 years before the ground work would be paved that lead to this website.
My dad won tickets to see Fred Moore box at the Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing. There was a crazy tattooed guy boxing by the name of Matt Vanda. I started checking out Vanda aka "The Predator" everytime he fought around the cities. Each day after I would check the papers and later the internet to read about the shows I attended but not much could ever be found.
I contacted Fightnews.com in 2002 just days before Vanda's first fight with Jesus Valverde to find out if they would be covering the event (which included Sugar Ray Leonard). After a long talk and introduction I found out they did have somebody covering the show and the person doing it was me.
After reporting on a few shows, I was hooked. But I began noticing the opportunity to interview amateur boxers and fighters just starting out would not always be an option with Fightnews, who is a leading internet website covering World wide boxing news. I didn't want to leave anybody out so started MinnesotaBoxing.com in 2004.
To make this long story short, I am just a huge boxing fan that has had his life changed from what started as a small hobby to get me closer to a sport I love. From the Twin Cities fighters, to the guys up in Duluth and across the state, to opponents from out of state, to the fans in the stands. I have met some great friends which is why I continue to keep MinnesotaBoxing.com rolling. That and to give the fighters a place to be seen.

COVERAGE
I get emails all the time asking why I don't do more interviews, why I only talk about one boxing team and not another etc. Basically I am a one man show. I have some help from a few great friends but they are busy too. I work two "real" jobs, have a wife and son. Honestly I have it pretty easy compared to most but it still gets hard to find time to give the time that is deserved to the Minnesota Fighters and for the Minnesota boxing fans like you. When you see stories and news it is usually do to those people contacting me to let me know what is going on. It is pretty easy actually. Send me an email or give me a call and I will do my best to get the news rolling.
Boxing in Minnesota is unique to say the least. 7 years behind the scenes has taught me that you have to take the good with the bad if you want to be a part of it. It has been a struggle to come off as fair and equal to everyone but that is my goal. MinnesotaBoxing.com focusses on the fighters by doing pre fight interviews to hype upcoming fights and posting ringside results. Staying simple like that is my best solution to keeping my sanity .

On a happy note, I
f you are a boxing fan that would like to contribute news or stories, I am always looking for help!

SPONSORS AND ADVERTISEMENTS
I know my website looks a little cluttered at times. But that clutter is the reason I am able to continue to run this website. The businesses that have sponsored or advertised on MinnesotaBoxing.com make it possible each year for me to travel across the state to conduct interviews and report on events and bring the news to Minnesota. This help I get makes it possible to fund the travel/lodging, Internet costs, time and the equipment needed to do what I do. So I ask that you do your best to support these people! Not only do they offer great services but they are some of the biggest boxing fans in the state.
