| Retired and well known Minnesota/Wisconsin boxer J.J. “The Native Sensation” Corn will be promoting a fight card at the Ho Chunk Casino in Wittenberg, Wisconsin this Saturday night. Corn, who is founder of RezBoy Promotions (not to be confused with Golden Boy Promotions) says that the fight card will feature Midwest boxers of equal skill against one another.
“These fights are 50/50 matchups that either fighter can win” said Corn. “That is the way it should be!” The main event features former title challenger Rob Frankel of Colorado against Bloomington, MN’s David LaQue. Lucas St. Clair takes on Travis Mccullough in an an all North Dakota showdown. Wisconsin’s DJ Denny and Starr Roberts of Minneapolis will battle in a 4 rounder. Ira Frank faces Bobby Connors in a welterweight bout. Mike Thunder faces Oni Webster in a super middleweight four rounder to kick the night off. |

FRIDAY, AUGUST 28: The long awaited MN State cruiserweight title bout between champ Al Sands (15-1, 13 KO’s) of Duluth and Phil “The Drill” Williams (14-7-2, 13 KO’s) will headline the show in a fight set for 10 rounds. Minnesota boxing fans voted this showdown as one of the best local fights that could have been made. SATURDAY, AUGUST 29: Wisconsin’s Marcus Oliveria (25-1-1) will square off against Dionisio Miranda (22-12-1) in the main event. Miranda was stopped a few months ago in Hinckley by Rob Brant. Oliveira looks to bounce back from his only loss, a world title bid against Juergen Braehmer in December of 2013. |

Duluth’s Al Sands (15-1) is less then two weeks out from defending his Minnesota State Cruiserweight title against Phil Williams on August 28 at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN. Sands recently brought his training camp to Las Vegas heading into this bout, which is one of the more anticipated all Minnesota matchups that could have been put together. | LITZAU HAS TO SETTLE FOR DRAW IN COMEBACK FIGHT Monday, August 17, 2015 |
| It took Jason Litzau a few rounds to shake off 3 years of ring rust but once he settled in, Litzau walked Williams down behind his jab and out-landed Williams for the majority of the fight. Litzau put his combinations together well as the fight went on, particularly his countering left hook which he doubled and tripled up on at times. Litzau also fired hard punches to Williams’ body which really began to pay off later in the fight. Williams was a speedy and crafty defensive fighter who had good scoring moments in the fight, but he didn’t come close to Litzau in the punches landed or thrown department. Litzau gave the first round away as Williams was busier, the second round was close, but Litzau seemed to pull away rather easily in rounds 3-7 leading into the eighth and final round. Both fighter took turns landing solid punches in the 8th, with Litzau closing the round out stronger. It was an entertaining bout that seemingly had a pretty clear winner in Litzau yet two judges disagreed. One judge had the Saint Paul fighter up 79-73. The second judge scored the fight 77-75 for Williams, and the third judge saw it even at 76-76, resulting in a split draw.

Jason Litzau, born in Saint Paul, will make his long awaited return to the ring tonight at the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. It’s been over three years since the 32 year old Litzau boxed, stopping Ira Terry in the opening round in Minneapolis. “I want to give it my all. That’s it. When I die and leave this earth, I want to be remembered as someone who gave it there all. I hope my opponent is going to give his heart and soul, because I am going to give mine. And guess what? 26 year old Javontae Starks (13-0, 7 KO’s) of Minneapolis defeated Columbian Carlos Galvan (10-3-1, 9 KO’s) on Sunday, August 2nd in Winter Park, Florida. Reports suggest it was a heated battle in which Starks won via 8 round split decision. Starks secured the win by dropping Galvan to the canvas in the final round. |

Robert “Bravo” Brant raised his record to (16-0, 10 KO’s) on Friday, July 17th in Bethlehem, PA with a third round TKO victory over late replacement opponent Ernesto Berrospe (10-8, 5 KO’s). Brant was caught off guard with a left hook in the first round that dropped him to his seat. Video showed that Brant was not hurt, and popped right back up to go to work. The rest of the fight was all Brant as he dropped his opponent in the second round, and then battered Berrospe in the third, dropping him again and eventually stopping him 33 seconds into the 3rd round. |

Robert “Bravo” Brant (15-0, 9 KO’s) of Oakdale, Minnesota will battle Ernesto Berrospe (10-7, 5 KO’s) this Friday night in a Middleweight bout. Brant has finished off another successful training camp in Dallas, Texas and is set to make his professional East Coast boxing debut at the Sands Hotel and Casino in Bethlehem, PA. The main part of the card will be televised on Showtime with Brant’s fight being on the undercard, which will be available to watch a few days afterwards archived on www.gfl.tv. Brant will hit the scales tonight at the Vision Bar at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. Brant recently signed a promotional contract with Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions. Cohen had been ringside here in Minnesota for some of Robert’s previous bouts. The new team has wasted no time getting Brant busy with Friday’s fight already here and there are rumors of a nice MN fight for Brant later in the year. | It was a winning weekend for three of Minnesota’s recognized boxers. Jamal “Shango” James (17-0, 9 KO’s) traveled to Pennsylvania to dominate Mike Balasi (10-7, 7 KO’s) of Hawaii by way of unanimous decision.
“The Saint Paul Kid” Antonio Johnson (11-1-1, 6 KO’s) won his BKB boxing debut in Las Vegas, Nevada with a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Castellon (11-0-1, 10 KO’s) of Florida. And Tony “2 Sharp” Lee (11-1-1, 3 KO’s) was victorious in Moundsview, MN against Chicago’s Lionel Jiminez (2-4, 6 KO’s) by way of majority decision. Saint Paul’s Antonio Johnson (11-1-1, 6 KO’s) will weigh in tonight for tomorrow nights fight against 21 year old Anthony Castellon (11-0-1, 10 KO’s) of Florida in a junior middleweight match. The fight takes place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be televised live on Direct TV Pay Per View. BKB is similar to conventional boxing but features a “pit” rather then a ring with ropes. The pit is about half the size of a boxing ring and BKB’s website says there is knowhere to hide. Rounds are two minutes long and there a bonuses to fighters for knockout of the night/punch of the fight to promote more hard punching action…

| Rondale Hubbert (10-2-1, 6 KO’s) says he was stopped at the end of round 3 moments ago in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by Brandon Bennett (19-1, 8Ko’s). Hubbert says that he feels like he did well on short notice and learned a lot, stating that he took away from the bout that he believes he can compete on that level given a full and healthy camp but that his body shut down due to the quick weight cut. WEIGHTS FROM PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA Rondale Hubbert 138.7 vs Brandon Bennett 137 Venue: Stadium Holiday Inn, Philadelphia Minnesota State Jr. Welterweight champ Rondale “Give Em Hell” Hubbert (10-1-1, 6 KO’s) left for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Wednesday where he will face 27 year old Brandon “Untouchable” Bennett (18-1, 7 Ko’s) this Friday night. Hubbert (above left) and Bennett weighed in earlier tonight. Bennett was originally set to face Alvaro Ortiz (7-2-1, 5 Ko’s) but that fight fell through and in stepped Hubbert on short notice. Friday’s bout will be at the Stadium Holiday Inn in Philly. The fight will be available to watch at www.gfl.tv the following Sunday (May 31st, 2015.) Below are a few words from Hubbert in regards to the fight against Bennett. “It was very short notice” said Hubbert when asked when it was that he was offered the fight. “I got the call on Monday and have been staying busy, trying to live like a champion. I’ve done my sparring and roadwork in my spare time before I got the fight and I feel like I have a great 6 rounds in me. My opponent is a well known prospect from Ohio. I think he’s fast and has nice combinations but he’s also a super featherweight so I’ll be the bigger man. After losing my first fight to Lalo Robles, I wanted an immediate rematch but that probably won’t happen so I want to continue to fight the best fighters around 135 and show I can compete with the best and that I can beat the best.” |

SO Fights presents the show which is titled “Fight Club MN”. So Fights is planning to do a regular club show series and this show kicks the series off. Lee will look at this fight as a tune up, with rumors of a possible state unification bout (135 pound and 140 pound titles) approaching this fall between he and Rondale Hubbert. | Thief River Falls, MN boxer Nate Rubin will take a big step up in only his second fight as a pro later tonight in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Rubin will face Willshaun Boxley in a very interesting 4 round matchup. Rubin brings an undefeated record of 2-0 to the ring and while Boxley’s record of (6-11-1, 4 KO’s) may look unimpressive at first glance, those that know or have seen Boxley in action know that he is much more capable then the numbers show. Boxley was a Twin Cities area amateur standout that has fought almost exclusively short notice bouts around the nation against bigger, undefeated prospects. Boxley is now living in the Grand Forks area and looks to get his career on track with a victory. UPDATE: From the Winnipeg Sun Winnipeg – lightweight Kyle Oliveira was hoping to go four rounds with Antwan Robertson of Minnesota. But Robertson pulled the old Roberto Duran ‘No Mas’ routine and didn’t come out for the second round. “Two hard body shots. I felt it in my hands,” Oliveira said. “That’s what did it. I was surprised. Every night I like to go the distance. Fighting is what I like to do, and I like to put on a show for the fans.” 29 year old “Lil Superman” Antwan Robertson (9-12-1, 6 KO’s) has taken a last second fight in Canada which takes place this Thursday night. The Minnesotan Robertson will face Canadian Kyle Oliveira (0-1) at the Club Regent Casino and Event Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Oliveira has an MMA background and seems very confident if not a little cocky on his social media (Twitter) page despite having lost his pro debut in sweeping fashion to former stand out Canadian amateur boxer Alex Torres. Oliveira posted the photo of Robertson above and captioned it “Someone forgot to tell this man I’m a motherfu**in MONSTER… Call the cops it’s gonna be a homicide!”. Robertson will bring the experience of over 20 professional bouts to the fight and it really depends on which Antwan Robertson will show up that will most likely determine the outcome. If the aggressive and motivated Robertson shows up, then Oliveira will find him self in with a skilled boxer and tough fight. Caleb Truax (25-2-2, 12 KO’s) fought valiantly but ultimately came up short in his world title bid against Daniel Jacobs (29-1, 26 KO’s) earlier tonight in Chicago Illinois. The fight was stopped by the referee with Truax on his feet along the ropes at 2:22 into the 12th and final round. The opening four rounds were close with both fighters landing consistently with solid jabs and occasional shots. But neither fighter seemed ready to risk opening up. The fight opened up in the fifth with Jacobs landing hard head shots in the first half of the round and Truax landing 5 consecutive straight rights in the closing minute. Truax put up a tough fight against a world champ and showed what he’s made of. He never stopped competing and refused to ever go down. Truax released the following statement the morning after fight night. |

Quick results from Friday nights action at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN Joey Abell won by third round TKO over Travis Fulton. Abell twisted his foot in round two but fought three the round with a limp. Abell, still hobbled by the foot injury, landed a number of unanswered head shots in round three and referee Gary Miezwa waived the fight off at :44 into the third. Abell was later taken to the hospital by ambulance as his ankle was the size of a softball and thought to be broken. Adam Lopez stopped Philip Adyaka at :58 into the second round. Nice quick combos from both in the first, Lopez began to land more after the first, and dropped a hard left uppercut to the chin of the Minnesotan in the second that dropped Adyaka and the fight was waived off. Robert Brant stopped Dionisio Miranda in the second round. Brant was sharp, beating Miranda to the punch through two rounds. Brant was teeing off in round two and dropped Miranda near the ropes and putting an end to the action. Ismail Barrosso dropped Ira Terry with a straight left to the head that put Terry down and out for the count in the closing moments of the first round. Barroso smiled throughout the round as he systematically broke Terry down. Jarrell Miller stopped Ray Ochieng near the end of the first. Miller took a while to let his punches go but when he did, he put Ochieng down along the ropes where the bout was stopped. Ochieng got up and protested the stoppage afterwards. Dennis Hogan won a unanimous decision over Tyrone Brunson in the main event. Brunson was elusive in the beginning, boxing well and winning rounds. | UPDATE, APRIL 14, 2015: Canada’s Tony Luis will be replaced by Venezuela southpaw Ismael Barroso (17-0-2, 16 KO’s) on Friday night’s CBS Sports televised boxing show in Hinckley, MN. Barroso will face Ira Terry, who was to be the opponent of Luis. Team Luis was contacted late Monday night and offered a WBA Interim lightweight title fight against English lightweight champion Derry Mathews in Liverpool England and have decided to take that fight instead.
There have been a few late changes to this Friday’s pro boxing show taking place at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN. Ramiro Hernandez (3-0, 3 KO’s) of Ohio (training part time at White Bear Boxing Gym) was forced to pull off the card last week due to a shoulder injury. Hernandez was also hampered by the flu virus last week as well. With Hernandez out, Minnesota’s Nate Rubin is left without an opponent and will no longer be in action. Rubin (2-0, 1 KO) expressed his disappointment in the fight being off but says that he could be fighting next month in North Dakota. Minneapolis boxer Philip Adyaka (4-4, 2 KO’s) has accepted a tough fight against 24 year old Adam Lopez (10-0, 5 KO’s) of Texas. Adyaka is coming into the bout riding a 3 fight win streak while Lopez stopped an 11-0 fighter in his last bout. Despite taking the fight on relatively short notice, Adyaka says that he has been in the gym and is prepared. There have been no changes to the other two fights involving our states local fighters. Rob Brant (14-0, 8 KO’s) of Saint Paul is still set to take on Dionisio Miranda (22-10-2, 19 KO’s) in an 8 round televised middleweight bout. Minneapolis heavyweight Van Goodman (3-5-2, 2 KO’s) will meet Brett Murphy (Minneapolis, 1-0, 1 KO) in a four rounder as we reported earlier. Dennis Hogan meets Tyrone Brunson in the main televised bout with the vacant WBA-NABA super welterweight title at stake. Tony Luis meets former Jason Litzau victim Ira Terry in a co-featured TV bout. New York heavyweight Jarell Miller (11-0-1, 9 KO’s) will box Raymond Ochieng (26-18-3, 21 KO’s). Ochieng was stopped by Minneapolis’ Aaron Green in 2013. Greg Cohen of Cohen Promotions is the promoter of the CBS Sports televised show, while local matchmaker Cory Rapacz of North Dakota has taken care of putting much of the card together. |

UPDATE : UPDATE #2: Damion Hill was stopped at 1:19 of the first round in New York last night. According to “The Ring” Online, his opponent Ivan Baranchyk landed two giant left hooks that dropped Hill near the start of the round. Hill says he wanted to continue but understands the stoppage. Hill took the fight on 3 days notice and had to drop 22 pounds in those days to make weight. Damion Hill “The Wolverine” (4-8) of Crystal, MN is in New York to fight tonight at the Resorts World Casino, in Queens. Hill will be boxing undefeated Ivan “The Beast” Baranchyk (5-0, 4 KO’s) of New York by way of Belarus in a six rounder. The bout was set at a weight of 145 pounds but both were slightly over and agreed to the new weight. Hill came in at 148 pounds while Baranchyk was 147.8 pounds. |

| Rondale Hubbert (9-1-1, 5 KO’s) lost an 8 round decision to Gerardo “Lalo” Robles (18-13, 8 KO’s) moments ago in Kansas City, Missouri. Minnesotaboxing.com spoke with Hubbert over the phone following the action and he says it was a good fight and that Robles was a tough opponent. Hubbert feels like he landed the bigger shots but also admits he doesn’t think he let his hands go as much as he wanted to.
“It’s definitely a learning experience” said Hubbert afterwards. ” I’m not marked up at all and look good, I just didn’t let my hands go as much as I should have to get the win on the road. I landed some hard shots though. It seemed like he was able to get away with whatever he wanted in there and I was warned by the referee for every little thing. At one point, I had a point taken for holding without even getting a warning. But that’s how it goes fighting on the road. It was a good fight though and I feel great. I will be back in the gym on Monday. It was a great learning experience and hopefully I will be back fighting in April in Milwaukee.” |

 Minnesota has had so many great gladiators of the prize ring during the 19th and 20th centuries that it is sometimes easy to gloss over the multitudes while focusing only on names such as: Gibbons, O’Dowd, Petrolle, and the Flanagan’s. But when the old boxing railbirds die off, so do the stories they told and carried with them. The oral tradition of Minnesota boxing greats is only as good as the ones telling and keeping them alive, and sometimes when that trail goes cold, we need to go back and look a little closer. Gone are the days when we could learn so freely of past fistic greats, whose stories were on the lips of so many down at the local gym or café. For with the loss of the storyteller, is the loss of the stories themselves; and with it, our unrecorded history. What’s left behind are just the names and incomplete records of the men whose surnames laced the pages of the Sports section. But in those piles of yellowing Depression-era newspapers and crinkly microfilm, lay bits and pieces of the life and times of past greats our state was privileged to have produced. Rodriguez recently announced his retirement from boxing so that he can concentrate on his continuing education. | 23 year old boxer/mma combatant Stephen Watt (3-3 boxing) of Minneapolis will headline a Kickboxing/Submission wrestling charity event tonight. Watt has boxed Tyler Hultin, Charles Meier, and Corey Rodriguez twice. The show is taking place to raise money to keep a Minneapolis school, Pope John Paul II’s doors from being closed for good. 100% of the proceeds go directly to saving the school. The action includes 10 kickboxing bouts and 9 submission wrestling matches. “The Wolverine” Damion Hill of Crystal, MN is also a recognizable name to boxing fans that will compete on the show. Doors open at 5pm with the fights starting at 6pm. The action will take place in the gym at Pope John Paul II School located at 1630 Fourth Street NE Minneapolis, MN 55413.

| “The American Boy” Allen Litzau (14-8, 7 KO’s) is fighting at the moment in New York versus Tommy Rainone (22-6-1, 4 KO’s). Both fighters weighed in yesterday at 151 pounds. The fight is a featured off TV bout to tonight’s Shobox bouts. UPDATE: Looks like Litzau dropped Rainone once in the fight but lost by TKO in the final minute of the sixth and final round. April will be a big month for two well known Minnesota boxers. It was announced following Robert Brant’s win in Hinckley earlier this month that he will be fighting on CBS television in his next bout that takes place at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN on April 17th. No opponent is set just yet. Truax has also signed a televised bout where he is set to take on a well known opponent with a big prize up for grabs. Details have not officially been released yet but could be as soon as today. The two have officially began training camp and have been sparring together as pictured above at the Minnesota Top Team Eagan facility. |

Oakdale, MN’s Robert “Bravo” Brant (13-0, 7 Ko’s) is back in the main event as he faces Ryan Davis (24-15-3, 9 KO’s) of Illinois. Davis lost a unanimous decision to Andy Kolle early last year in Hinckley. Brant is currently in Dallas, Texas wrapping up training camp. Minnesota super lightweight title holder Rondale “Give Em Hell” Hubbert (8-0-1, 5 KO’s) takes on spoiler Gilbert Venegas (12-16-4, 8 KO’s) in an 8 round co-featured bout. Venegas has given locals Mohammed Kayongo and Corey Rodriguez difficult fights over the last few years and has proven very durable against prospects around the Nation. Hubbert continues to take on all comers, reportedly having agreed to terms to face both Jason Litzau and Tony Lee recently before the fights fell apart for reason’s out of his control. | Phil Williams lost by 5th round TKO in his cruiserweight bout versus Jordan Shimmell of Michigan last night in Chicago. Reports come in that Shimmell swept the five rounds behind a jab and solid right to start followed by body shots in the later rounds. Williams switched from southpaw to orthodox and landed the best shot of the fight for himself in the fourth despite Shimmell taking the round. Williams did land a few more hard shots throughout but Shimmell poured it on in the fifth and Williams didn’t make it out for round six. Javontae Starks won an 8 round unanimous decision by scores of 80-72 on all cards. Reports were that Starks had to work for the victory and found himself in a tough fight.  “Sir” Cerresso Fort will be opening a new gym on the East side of Saint Paul in the coming new year. “Sir Cerresso Fort Boxing and Fitness” will be officially opening it’s doors on February 1st, 2015 and is located at 1440 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN. Fort recently brought amateur boxer Gizzy Hobbs to Saint Louis where Hobbs won the 132 pound “Best in the Midwest” title. As for Fort, the Saint Paul boxer is coming off of a second round TKO win over Jeremy Marts in October and hopes to be back in the ring ring as soon as possible.
