MMA: SMITH REPLACES KAPEL AT LFA 22

37 year old Ben Smith of The Academy has come out of retirement on five days notice to fight in tomorrow nights LFA 22 show in Colorado. Smith replaces friend and teammate Andrew Kapel to face former foe Gilbert Smith (12-6).

Ben and Gilbert Smith met each other in 2015 with Gilbert winning by third round arm lock submission. Andrew Kapel was extremely disappointed to pull out of the huge fight because of severe nerve damage to his elbow. He said afterwards that it was the first time in 15 years of competing that an injury forced him out of a fight.

LFA 22 – Heinisch vs. Perez will be televised live on AXS TV tomorrow night from the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Ben Smith weighed in earlier tonight at 189.8 pounds while Gilbert Smith weighed 186.6 lbs.
