ABELL BOXES IN SHOWTIME OPENER TOMORROW NIGHT

“Minnesota Ice” Joey Abell (31-8, 29 KO’s) will box in Showtime’s opening televised bout tomorrow night at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The Minnesota heavyweight Abell will face undefeated Canadian heavyweight Oscar Rivas (17-0, 12 KO’s). Abell stepped up on short notice as Rivas’ has his original opponent fall through. The telecast featuring Abell begins at 8pm on Showtime Extreme. The main event of the night is a clash between James DeGale and Lucian Bute for the WBC super middleweight title. That will be shown at 10pm on Showtime. Earlier tonight, Abell tipped the scales at 236.5 pounds while the shorter Oscar Rivas was 4 pounds heavier at 240.5.
