ABELL, STARKS, SHIMMELL HEADLINE MAY 18
Minnesotan’s Joey Abell and Javontae Starks along with Michigan’s Jordan Shimmell will be featured on Fox Sports 1’s live telecast on Tuesday, May 18th at The Black Bear Casino in Carlton, MN. The Tuesday night broadcast will be presented by Premier Boxing Championships in association with Seconds Out Promotions.
Heavyweight Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell (31-9, 29 KO’s) of Coon Rapids, MN will battle undefeated Florida resident John Wesley Nofire (19-0, 15 KO’s). For Abell, it will be a chance to take a big fight with plenty of time to prepare unlike many of his recent and short notice fights against good opposition. Nofire, who stands 6’6” has not been tested yet by a fighter like Abell and will be looking to do so in this co-featured bout.
Minneapolis welterweight Javontae Starks (13-1, 7 KO’s) will also be returning to action back home in Minnesota. Starks has been fighting on the road for 2 years now and will attempt to bounce back from his first defeat as a professional. Starks was the more skilled and polished fighter against Samuel Figueroa last October but let his gritty opponent outwork him at times which resulted in the decision loss. Starks will face Miami’s Yordenis Ugas (15-3, 7 KO’s). Like Starks, Ugas is a former amateur standout. The Cuban born Ugas was a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist that is also looking to get back in the win column following 2 recent defeats.
In the nights main event, Michigan cruiserweight Jordan Shimmell (20-1, 16 KO’s) takes on undefeated Russian Murat Gassiev (22-0, 16 KO’s). To see the full card as it stands… CLICK HERE.
