SAINT CLOUD AREA GOLDEN GLOVES BOXING’S SATURDAY AFTERNOON EVENT WAS ANOTHER HIT!
The St. Cloud Area Golden Gloves Boxing gym hosted amateur boxing on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Saint Cloud, MN Armory. The show continued what’s been an amazing year for local amateur boxing.
The main event lived up to the pre-bout hype with Eddie Valenzuela of Top Team in Eagan winning an action packed decision over Dominic Badillo of Toro’s in Hillsboro, ND. Valenzuela represented the 2023 Upper Midwest Golden Gloves team at Nationals in the156 pound division while Badillo did the same at 147 pounds. The two met in the middle on Saturday at 150 pounds for this bout. Both walked away winners because of the valuable experience earned against top National level competition.
“The fight was action packed from the start”. Said Valenzuela. “With each round, we slowly shifted from boxing to a smart brawl. The fight was very enjoyable for all the fans and I’ve got nothing but love and respect for Dominic! Truly a warrior.
Badillo agreed saying “It was a display of two different styles that made a great fight!”.
The rest of the card was filled with many “fight of the night” candidates that played out nicely for those in attendance. Like so many amateur bouts and shows, the straight up results do not tell the full story. Congratulations to all of those who competed.
