APRIL 23RD SHOW MOVES FORWARD WITHOUT PEREZ-PATRAW BOUT
Minneapolis’s Jonathan “J-Fuego” Perez (11-0, 6 KO’s) and Saint Paul’s “Bad” Brad Patraw (10-8, 5 KO’s) were set to face off for the MN State Featherweight title belt this Friday, April 23rd at EL Nuevo Rodeo Restaurant in Minneapolis. But a complicated surgery involving a family member forced Patraw off the card. Perez would have been attempting to become a two division State champ as he currently holds the 118 pound belt. After a few other bouts fell through afterwards, Perez will now face North Dakota’s Tomi Archambault (1-8, 1 KO) in a non-state title match. Archambault has had a tough streak on the road against good opposition since he upset Ronnie Peterson in Minneapolis in 2009 but says he is excited to be fighting in the Upper Midwest again against Perez.
“I’m just thankful for another chance to fight in the four corner circle and I am expecting a good night of Boxing. I Wish Perez the best, he is a champion and I only fight the best.
2015 newcomer of the year Celso “El Niño” Ramirez (2-0, 2 KO’s) of Minneapolis is scheduled to box in the nights main event against Ohio middleweight Gabriel Morris (4-29-3, 0 KO’s).
“Training camp went well overall” said Ramirez. “We worked hard as usual but put some extra hours and a longer training camp then usual because I knew it was going to be a step up for me. My opponent has a lot of fights with a lot of experience but I like that competition and the challenge. I expect that he came to fight and not make it easy for me but overall, you guys, my fans, family , and friends can expect a great night of boxing, not just for me, but also my older brothers. This is my first time being in the main event so makes it’s more exciting. Also, don’t forget your rain coat and umbrella because El Niño is back!”
Super Welterweight VeShawn Owens (1-0, 1 KO) of Minneapolis will meet Wisconsin’s Antoine Elerson (2-15-1, 2 KO’s) in another featured bout. Owens and Elerson have been jawing back and forth on Facebook for weeks.
“The Dynamic Warrior” Mengistu Zarzar (3-0, 2 KO’s) of Brooklyn Park, MN will battle Leonard “The Greatest One” Marsaw (debut) in a cruiserweight bout. Zarzar and Marsaw both train at the ACR Gym in Coon Rapids but are said to despise one another. Both guys say they plan on knocking the other out cold to prove who is “greater” than the other.
Gavino “Huesitos” Guaman (1-0) of River Falls, Wisconsin and Salim Koroma (debut) will square off in a lightweight bout.
Stan Martyniouk (14-2, 2 KO’s) of California (by way of Estonia) faces Lionel Jimenez (2-11, 2 KO’s) of Illinois. Antoine Knight (3-20, 1 KO) of Indiana will box Leshaun Blair (4-32) of Tennessee.
