BACKYARD BOXERS BRING HOME WINS FROM NEBRASKA!
A pair of Minnesota amateur boxers traveled to Columbus, Nebraska to compete at the 2022 School of Hard Knocks National Championships this past weekend, moved up in weight, and were victorious. Hser Htoo and Moo Thaw of The Backyard Boxing Gym in White Bear Lake, MN boxed phenomenally at the two day event hosted by The Sweatbox Boxing Club in Nebraska.
Say Poe of Backyard Boxing made the trip with Htoo and Thaw as coach and told MinnesotaBoxing.com that they were supposed to box on Saturday but that their opponents did not show. Instead of packing up and heading home, Thaw moved up from 119 pounds (120 after putting on a pound to move up) to face an opponent that weighed 131 pounds on Saturday. Thaw then boxed at 120 pounds on Sunday where he had his hand raised after both bouts.
Poe says that Htoo did the same, showing up at 112 pounds and eventually putting on two pounds to box an opponent that weighed 122 pounds. Htoo also won his match.
The Backyard Boxing Gym is an amazing place located in the garage of coach Jose Becerra’s home which is entirely funded by the time and money of Becerra. We will be publishing a story with more details in the near future as a first of many local boxing gym features by MinnesotaBoxing.com. Gym’s like Backyard Boxing are the important non profits you should consider donating to because of the amount of important work they do for the kids day in and day out.
