BEMIDJI BOXING CLUB HOSTS FIRST BOXING MATCH AT CEDAR LAKES CASINO THIS SATURDAY
The Bemidji Boxing Club will host amateur boxing on Saturday, February 24, 2023 at the Cedar Lakes Casino in Cass Lake, MN. Promoter Joe Lorenzi says that although this will be the first boxing show held at this Casino, Cass Lake has an extensive background when it comes to boxing. Gyms from all over the state and into Canada are scheduled to compete including some of the biggest names in Minnesota’s current amateur scene (see bout sheet attached). The main event features Bemidji’s Britton Kleeb, 26, boxing against Ndikumwenyao Faustin, 23, of Rouge Boxing at 154 pounds. The co-main features Antonio Varney Sr. of Red Lake, MN facing off with Arath Luna Bautista, 24, at 175 pounds. Former UMGG champion Jeroson Garduward and multi-time National champion Timothy Greer of Lucy Laney precede those bouts in separate matches.
The doors open at 2 PM with the fists set to fly at 3 PM CST. Cedar Lakes Casino is located at 6268 Upper Cass Frontage Road, MN. Tickets are available at the Casino or by visiting www.bemidjiboxingclub.com.
Lorenzi shared his excitement for the show and some background with us yesterday about Saturday’s stacked show.
“We are at Cedar Lakes Casino. This will be the first boxing match there but Cass Lake has a rich history of boxing that dates well into the 1950’s. I am very excited to host an event there. I boxed several times at the old Palace Casino in Cass Lake in the 1990’s” said Lorenzi.
“The Leech Lake Boxing club was a very strong team in the 90’s and 2000’s. They no longer have a team but there is a lot of excitement buzzing over this event. I hope to light a spark in the former boxers from the area and hopefully one day the Leech Lake Boxing team can be active again. We were able to get the sanction for 2/24/24 on short notice, but there were no open venues in Bemidji to host the event on that date. I reached out to Cedar Lakes and they were very happy to host us!”
“I am very thankful and excited for this event. After hosting almost 40 amateur boxing events, this one just has a special feel to it. The crowd is going to be amazing and we have some of the top Amateurs in the region boxing each other. We are also bringing in two teams from Canada that are close to half of the event. That’s a lot of Canadians! I want to thank all of the boxers, coaches, officials and sponsors for making this event possible.”
