BONSANTE, KOST, OSGOOD, MN BOXING UPDATE
There are some big fights being talked about for a few of our fighters so I thought I would post a little update. These events are still in the works, so nothing is set in stone at this point.
I recently spoke with local trainer Jesse Garza and found out about a few fights in the works. Anthony “the Bullet” Bonsante (24-3-3) of Shakopee has been staying busy in the gym and continues to look for a big fight. Some offers have been coming in (Jermaine Taylor and Jeff Lacy among others) but according to Garza, the offers have been from heavier fighters for way less money than he deserves. They are currently working on a possible January 2nd date either in Delaware or Indianapolis. No opponent has been named.
18 year old Juan Baltierez (1-0-1) of St.Paul also may be fighting along with Bonsante that night. Kenny Kost (2-0) of WBL, Mn is still looking to take on another prospect named Jesus Gonzalez (6-0) of Phoenix,AZ. The two have been trying to put together a fight for a while now. A Missouri date on December 27 has been brought up as a possibility.
39 year old Quinton Osgood (9-12) of Minneapolis, Mn is fresh off the biggest win of his career and is looking for one more big fight, specifically targeting North Dakotas Virgil Hill. “Osgoods record is very deceiving” says trainer Jesse Garza. “He has been forced to fight 6’4 or 6’5 230 pound + heavyweights his entire career!” Osgood is only 5’8 and fights as a cruiserweight. Back on November 8th of this year, Osgood beat Lincoln, Nebraska’s own Ira Humm then (18-1) in front of a hostile 4,600 plus pro Humm crowd. The beating that Osgood delivered finally took its toll in the seventh when Humms corner threw in the towel to end the fight.
Finally, Jesse Garza also informed me that he will be working with J.R., owner of JR Powerhouse gym in Roseville on putting together a Boxing/Wrestling show at the Grand Casino in Hinkley, MN sometime in April of 2004. 12/14/03
