BOXING: Big Fights on the Horizon for Caleb Truax

Multiple news sources reported yesterday that former IBF super middleweight world champion Golden” Caleb Truax is “set” to face WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez (22-0, 19 KO’s) on April 18th. Those reports jumped the gun however with nothing finalized at the time of this writing.

Days following Truax’s 31st victory over David Basajjamivule on January 25th at the Convention Center in Minneapolis, reports also circulated that Truax would be facing Ghana’s Ernest Amuzu (25-5, 22 KOs) weeks later on February 15th. Just like this fight with Benavidez however, the Minnesotan had not even looked a contract let alone signed. The reported fight against Amuzu never happened.

Caleb Truax lands a left to the body of David Basajjamivul on January 25th at the MNPLS Convention Center.

A showdown with the 23 year-old champion Benavidez is a definite possibility and we will confirm the fight if details get inked. Truax is in a good position with a few avenues available. At 36, Truax admits he is entering the final chapter of a highlighted career which has spanned 13 years. Truax says his goals are to secure the most lucrative fights and get back to the top by winning another world title.

All fights are going to be a big challenge at this point but Truax says he is ready for whatever comes his way. Along with his #4 IBF rating, Truax is rated #11 by the WBC. Benavidez won the vacant WBC super middleweight title by defeating Ronald Gavril in 2017. He most recently defended that title with a knockout victory over Anthony Dirrell last September. Caleb Plant of Las Vegas, Nevada now holds the IBF title that Truax held after defeating James Degale in 2017.
