BOXING: CHAOS ERUPTS AT UNCIVIL WAR WEIGH-IN

All hell broke loose at last night’s weigh-in’s for “Uncivil War”, the rematch between Phil “The Drill”

Phil Williams, left and Mengistu Zarzar face off last night in Minneapolis. The two will battle in tonight’s main event at The Myth Live in Maplewood, MN. Photo by Zach Kitzman via Tony G Presents Facebook page.

Williams and Mengistu “The Dynamic Warrior” Zarzar. The tension could be felt in the air at Williams’ North Side Boxing Gym which was the official weigh-in site. Williams paced back and forth and hinted to Zarzar that they might end up letting the punches fly early. Zarzar displayed his pride by agreeing to weigh-in at Williams’ second home and stared back with his arms crossed, ready to meet.

Williams, the champion weighed in first at a hulking 199 pounds. Zarzar was next, coming in on the MN combative sports commissions official bout sheet much lighter (we double checked) but equally ripped at 181 pounds.

Now it was time for face-offs and they didn’t last long. Zarzar walked right up to Williams, so close that they touched faces which The Drill did not like. Williams shoved Zarzar and the two were immediately separated by loud and rowdy onlookers. The yelling continued minutes later and Zarzar emerged from another room screaming while walking straight to Williams. Williams took a swing and landed a short right hook to the chin of Zarzar who stayed composed and later said he did not want to jeopardize his pay day by retaliating. The two men will settle the score later tonight.
