“Golden” Caleb Truax (30-4-2, 19 KO’s) of Osseo, MN and his Ugandan opponent David Basajjamivule (16-4-1, 11 KO’s) had no trouble making the contracted weight of 172 pounds. Truax hit 172 on the dot while Basajjamivule was a pound lighter at 171 pounds. The fight is tonight’s main event which is scheduled for 10 rounds. Basajjamivule was a man of few words at Thursday’s press conference and he and Truax faced off, shook hands, and wished each other good luck after making weight.

” He’s a little bit awkward and has a little bit of pop” said Truax when asked what he knows about Basajjamivule. “I just have to be careful, get in there and get the win and hopefully move on to something big in April.”

Premier Boxing Champions announced on Tuesday that Truax would be facing Ghana’s Amuzu (25-5, 22 KO’s), who now fights out of Prichard, Alabama. Truax was caught off guard by the announcement as he had not yet been approached with the fight.

A fun local featherweight match between Duluth, Minnesota’s Jesse Walters (2-0, 2 KO’s) and Moorehead, Minnesota’s Jose Homar Rios (2-7-1, 1 KO) is scheduled for four rounds. Walters, 19, stands at 5’8″ and weighed in yesterday at 125 pounds. “Primo” is the nephew of trainer “Jungle Boy” Zach Walters and has generated excitement after two exciting fights as a pro.

” My opponent is tough and has more pro fights than me” Walters told MN Fight News. “He’s gone the distance in his last several fights so hopefully we can get some good rounds. Training camp has been long and I feel great. I’m looking forward to putting on a show for the fans. It’s a big deal to box on the undercard of a former world champion like Caleb Truax. I’m thankful for the opportunity and glad to work with Tony G Presents”.

Homar Rios, 29, is a work horse who comes to bang against whoever is placed in front of him. Facing a local prospect is nothing new for Rios who’s boxed Trevor Marmon, Gavino Guaman, Ramiro Hernandez, and Antwan Robertson. Known as ‘El Terco” which is Spanish for “The Stubborn one”, Rios fights out of the Hillsboro Toro’s Boxing Gym. Rios weighed 127 pounds and says he’s gunning for fight of the night.

“I don’t really know a whole lot about my opponent, just that he had a decent amateur career” said Rios. “The fans can pretty much expect this to be fight of the night it’ll be a fire fight. Training camp was really good. I’m just ready to get in the ring!”

Undefeated middleweights Amy “Hard Hands” Lemenager (1-0, 1 KO) of Duluth, MN and Leslie “the Little Bull” Pope (4-0, 3 KOs) of Kansas City, Missouri shared an intense face-off after weighing in. Lemenager came in at 159 pounds while Pope lighter at 156 pounds. Lemenager is an all around athlete but outside of boxing is most known for her hockey days as goalkeeper for Proctor-Hermantown. Pope, said she joined boxing to find the comradery she had in the armed services and likes to throw a lot of punches. Expect non-stop punches to fly in this four rounder (2 Minute rounds) as well.

“My fans can expect an exciting, quick fight” The 21 year-old Lemenager predicted. “I respect anyone who’s willing to get in the ring with me, but my opponent doesn’t stand a chance. I eat, sleep and breathe boxing during training camp and I feel more prepared than ever to put on a great show in Minneapolis.”

Three scheduled fights fell off the card. It was announced after Thursday’s press conference that Circle of Discipline boxers Ve Shawn Owens and Celso Ramirez would not be boxing. The two were extremely frustrated after putting in another tough training camp. “Sorry everybody” said Owens via social media. No fight this Saturday. Disappointed but we’ll be having another opportunity in April at the Armory once again. Thank you everyone for the support, My apologies.”

Minneapolis heavyweight Terrence Walker also had an opponent fall out at weigh-ins and he will no longer be boxing. An exhibition match against “Wolfman” Marty Lindquist was offered last second but Walker wanted the fight to count. Lindquist was unable to get approved by the state commission.
