BOXING: GENERATION NEXT BOXING THIS THURSDAY NIGHT

Pro boxing is back at the Myth Nightclub in Maplewood, MN for a special Thursday night fight card in two days. The August 8th show is titled “Generation Next” and the action is being presented by Tony G Presents. Weigh-ins will be at 1 PM at Myth on Wednesday.

Saint Paul, Minnesota’s Giezwa Hobbs (4-0) fights in his first local main event against Indiana’s DeWayne Wisdom (7-48-2). Hobbs, of Sir Cerresso Fort Boxing in Saint Paul is currently campaigning at featherweight and this fight is scheduled for 4 rounds. Watch for our interview with Hobbs to go live tomorrow where he talks about the upcoming fight and more.

Jungle Boy Boxing’s Danny Huffman (2-0) and Jesse Walters (pro debut) travel to the Twin Cities from Duluth to compete in separate bouts. Huffman battles Indiana’s Jesse Addison (2-2) while 2019 UMGG 123 pound champion Walters takes on Mark Slyter (1-5) of Gardner, Kansas. As usual, the Duluth press has been doing a top notch job of following the two boxers throughout training camp. “The Wolfman” Marty Lindquist (14-10) of Blaine, MN made his pro debut 25 years ago and turned 50 last Saturday. The former state title challenger will meet 50 year old John Schimon (1-3) of Belle Creek, MN. Lindquist was victorious in a kickboxing bout last June and teaches boxing at Valhalla Combat in Fridley while also training at Lyke’s Boxing gym in Coon Rapids. Schimon gets back in the boxing ring for the first time since 2013 and currently coaches at American Top Team in Eagan.

The opening bout features two skilled mixed martial artists making pro debuts in the boxing ring. Southpaw Lloyd McKinney of La Crosse, Wisconsin meets Michael Jokondo of Minneapolis in a four round super featherweight bout. Iron Works’ McKinney picked up a big MMA win recently for Legacy Fighting Alliance and also competed on Fight 2 Win Jiu Jitsu’s rock star stage. Jokondo competes in MMA as well as Muay Thai locally and trains out of the Academy while also getting work in at Lyke’s Boxing.
