BOXING: Grand Casino Fight Week Notes
Boxing returns to the Grand Casino in Hinckley, Mn this Friday night. The main event is likely the biggest cruiserweight fight in state history as MN state champion Phil “The Drill” Williams battles challenger Al Sands in a rematch. Williams is coming off of a successful title defense and Sands is looking to regain the title he once held. Both boxers appear to be at their best four and a half years following the first meeting.
Minnesota state featherweight champion Ramiro Hernandez has an important fight. If Hernandez, of Ohio, has a big following in Minnesota and if he is victorious, a huge fight against British featherweight Issac “The Westgate Warrior” Lowe could be on the horizon. Lowe is a friend and training partner of heavyweight Tyson Fury. The Hernandez-Lowe bout is in the works to be on the undercard to Fury versus Deontay Wilder on February 22nd in Las Vegas.
Other action currently scheduled includes a heavyweight match between Duluth’s Ryan Watson and Ray Ochieng of Minneapolis. Former MN state super lightweight champion Rondale Hubbert will box Nebraska’s Jose Jacobo. Cruse Stewart, Joe James, and Marlin Sims will be featured in undercard action.
The full card as it stands can be seen HERE. Stay tuned for interviews with the fighters to come throughout the week.
