BOXING: HUBBERT DROPS HARD FOUGHT DECISON IN NY, HINCKLEY UP NEXT
Former MN State Super Lightweight champion Rondale Hubbert (13-11-1, 8 KO’s) lost a hard fight six round unanimous decision to Mathew Gonzalez (10-0, 6 KO’s) at Terminal 5 in New York last night. The show was promoted by DiBella Entertainment and streamed live on UFC Fight Pass. It wasn’t an easy fight for either fighter and the rounds flew by because of the good action. Up next for Hubbert is a featured spot on the undercard to Phil Williams vs. Al Sands 2 at the Grand Casino Hinckley January 17th, 2020.
Hubbert was originally training to fight Bill Hutchinson in Pittsburgh but that fight fell through. A full training camp with Danny Huffman and Jesse Wannemacher in Duluth gave Hubbert the option to take the short notice fight against Gonzalez.
The fight was back and forth with Hubbert on the move firing punches and ducking out of the way of incoming shots. Gonzalez kept a tight guard and marched forward with hard combinations. Hubbert said afterwards that the scores which read 60-54, 60-54, 59-55 felt too wide but he is happy with another good performance on the road.
“I always come to fight and no matter who it is, it’s going to be hell in the ring with me.”
