BOXING: ISMAIL MUWENDO RETURNS THIS SATURDAY
Minnesota lightweight Ismail “The Sharp Shooter” Muwendo (19-1, 12 KO’s) will be back in action this Saturday night in Omaha, Nebraska. Muwendo faces Missouri southpaw Andre Wilson (15-11-1, 12 KO’s) in an 8-round lightweight bout. The main event features WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford as he defends his belt against Jose Benavidez in Omaha, Nebraska. Muwendo’s undercard fight will be streamed live on ESPN Plus beginning at 7 PM Central time while the main card will be televised later in the night on ESPN.
Trainer Scott Tolzman told Minnesota Fight News that Muwendo has had a great training camp with Team Crawford in Colorado.
Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, who is manager-trainer of WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford also says that Muwendo has been sharp in camp.
“There’s no easy fights at this level, we are very familiar with Wilson, he’s crafty and has some pop to his punches but we believe in Ismail. He showed what kind of fighter he is in that defeat, he climbed off the canvas and honestly made the fight close despite the knockdowns. He will grow from that fight as a fighter, he will know he can get through moments like that. Corrections have been made and the kid put in the work, he’s ready to go.”
