BOXING: MEIER VS THOMAS “FACE TO FACE” FIGHT PREVIEW

“Sir” Charles Meier and Fred Thomas are set to compete in a featured undercard bout this Saturday night at the Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN. You can go ahead and call it a comeback for Meier, even if it’s only for one final fight. Meier promised at yesterday’s press conference that this would be the last fight of his 11 year pro boxing career. His record stands at 8 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws. Meier’s last bout was five years ago and he came up short in his final two matches. He says that this fight is about attempting to go out on his terms with a win.

Fred Thomas will not be coming to give Meier the exit from boxing he is seeking. Thomas brings a heavy punch and has boxed locals Cerresso Fort, Mohammed Kayongo, Nate Richardson, Uriel Lara, and Danny Huffman. Thomas took most of those fights on short notice and consequently ran out of gas as the fights went on. But he stood toe-to-toe with most of them beforehand. Thomas and Meier were scheduled to box on December 14th so the opportunity for both men to come prepared is there.

See what the two fighters had to say in this “FACE TO FACE” fight week preview.

CHARLES MEIER: “I really appreciate the opportunity to get on this card. I should have been done, but needed to do what I needed to do. I’ve worked hard, worked very hard putting in late night’s to be ready for this. He’s coming in here and he’s going to catch these hands real quick. It’s going to be a great card, I hope everybody has a good time and let’s do this”

FRED THOMAS: “I expect my opponent to stick to boxing” said Thomas. “He’s bigger and taller than me so keeping me on the outside would be a smart move. I will come with speed and aggressiveness and he’s going to have to keep up with me. I will set the pace. I Didn’t really get to excel in my training like I would have liked to but I did not have to cut any weight either. So I am going in feeling strong.”
