Minneapolis welterweight Celso Ramirez (now 7-1-1, 7 KO’s) and Tyrone Luckey (now 9-10-4, 7 KO’s) of Neptune, New Jersey fought to a six round majority draw tonight at the Armory in Minneapolis. Fans booed the decision and felt Tyrone was “lucky” to even up the score on the cards. Ramirez seemed to land the more damaging shots. Luckey was busier at times and got rolling more as the fight went on.

Ramirez had a good opening round while landing body shots and mixing in hard two-fisted shots to the head that hurt Luckey throughout the round. Despite getting tagged, Luckey continuously came forward and the pressure led to a few clean punches of his own being landed as round one came to a close.

Ramirez’s confidence appeared to grow as the early rounds went on although there were less exchanges and he opened up less in the second half of the fight. Some rounds were tough to score. Final scores read 58-56 for Ramirez and 57-57, 57-57. A nose injury wile sparring a week before the fight gave Ramirez trouble after round one but he says he roughed it out and was able to give the fans a show.

“I thought I won the fight but it was close” said Ramirez afterward. “I believe I won just like all the fans but I think with the nose injury, I wasn’t able to breathe after the first round. I still went to war and thought I pulled it out. The ring rust got to me also but I promise to all the fans that EL NIÑO will be back and give you guys another amazing show. I just want to thank all my fans that came out to show support.”

Cuban born Osvary Morrell (now 1-0, 1 KO) made quick work of Yendris Valdez (now 2-7, 2 KO’s) to win his pro debut. Morrell, who recently relocated to Minneapolis, dropped Valdez twice in the opening round before scoring the first round finish.

It was announced earlier in the night that Jamal “Shango” James will fight at The Armory on December 21st in a title eliminator bout.

In the night’s main event, former world champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (26-3-3, 15 KO’s) regained the vacant WBA super welterweight title by blowing past Ramon Alvarez (28-8-3, 16 KO’s) in the second round. Lara backed Alvarez into the ropes with punches before the referee gave Alvarez a count. Lara was right on top of Alvarez when the action continued and the fight was waived off shortly after. The official time of the stoppage was 2:03 of the second round.

Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (13-0-1, 9 KO’s) and Jamontay “The Quiet Assassin” Clark (14-1-1, 7 KO’s) fought to a 10 round draw in the co-featured PBC on Fox bout. The fight featured back and forth action and was a great match-up of styles. Scores read 98-92 Fundora, 96-94 Clark, 95-95.

Heavyweight Frank Sanchez (13-0, 11 KO’s) defeated Victor Bisbal (23-4, 17 KO’s) after Bisbald could not answer the bell for round five.

Raymart Gaballo (22-0, 19 KO’s) stopped Yeison Vargas (17-2, 12 Kos) by way of third round TKO. Gaballo dropped Vargas once in round two and two more times in the third.

The announced attendance was 2,800.
