BOXING: SAINT PAUL BOXER SEMITALA EARNS 9TH VICTORY
21 year old Saint Paul, Minnesota transplant Rogers Semitala (9-0, 9 KO’s) kept things rolling in Chiapas, Mexico last night. The skilled super flyweight defeated Mexico’s Roel Perez (5-11-1) by TKO in round 5. Semitala is originally from the same gym (COBOP) in Kampala, Uganda as Ismail Muwendo and is also trained by Saint Paul’s Scott Tolzmann. Tolzmann says he first met Semitala when the boxer was 11 years old where the pugilist went on to be the Ugandan Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) Team Captain for virtually his entire elite amateur career. Rogers has since relocated to Minnesota where he and Tolzmann plan to continue to develop and grow Semitala’s skills and prepare him for the next level.
“Rogers only arrived in the U.S. a few months ago and is already showing great development” said Tolzmann. “I first met Rogers when he was only 11yrs old, and I was in Kampala before traveling with the Ugandan National Team to the 2nd African Olympic qualifier. Rogers has shown tremendous growth, consistent development, and good boxing IQ since that time. He also has a great work ethic. He still needs a lot of development to become a skilled professional, but I am very happy with where he’s come thus far. I developed him to 8-0 as a professional in Uganda, and because of the inactivity at his weight in the U.S., we have decided to travel abroad to continue his experience and development. Hence, the fight in Chiapas, Mexico against a durable and experienced fighter. I expect great things from Rogers, as he is without a doubt a world-class talent. The plan is to continue to let him grow as a professional before taking him in the national scene for exposure and promotional support.”
Outside of boxing Rogers “Gods Power” is a Minister and plans on having his own congregation/church one day in Uganda following his boxing career.
