BOXING: VE SHAWN OWENS RETURNS TONIGHT IN NY
Ve Shawn “Blankman” Owens (9-1, 9 KO’s) of Minneapolis, MN has another important fight lined up tonight in Brooklyn, NY. The Circle of Discipline super welterweight prospect is scheduled to box Chordale Booker (10-0, 5 KO’s) in an eight-round bout. The fight helps kick off the supporting bouts to Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter’s WBC title fight on Showtime. Premier Boxing Champions presents the action.
Last April, Owens stood toe-to-toe while traded punches with 6″6′ undefeated southpaw Sebastian Fundora at the Minneapolis Armory. After a back and forth battle, the fight was stopped near the end of round four. Owens had experienced the first loss of his pro career but he was not discouraged. In fact, he says he has wanted to get back in the ring the moment he stepped out. He returns now, five months later, against another prospect and a familiar face in the hometown, southpaw Booker.
“The moment I stepped out of my last bout, I needed to step back in,” Owens told MN Fight News. “This is a part of the game and it’s a learning lesson on my part. I’m so excited that I’m back on the big stage to showcase my skills once again. I fought him (Booker) twice in the amauters in two ranking tournaments. I know him well and we are mutual buds. It’s gonna be a jam-packed, exciting fight.”
STREAM INFO UPDATE: Ve Shawn Owens vs. Chordale Booker will now take place after the Showtime televised main event due to time restraints. The Circle of Discipline said they would try to stream the fight (after 11 PM) at their Facebook Page Here.
