BOXING: WEIGH-IN REPORT FROM DULUTH, MN

“Generation Next” boxers weighed in yesterday afternoon at Jungle Boy Boxing Gym in Duluth, MN. The main event fighters made weight and Duluth’s Danny Huffman will finally get his chance to box as a pro in front of his hometown fans tonight. Huffman came in at 153 while his opponent Fred Thomas (1-15) of Iowa was 153.2. The fights begin at 7 PM at the DECC in Duluth and you can also watch the fights live on FACEBOOK.

Gizzy Hobbs and Ray Chacon face off yesterday afternoon in Duluth.

Huffman’s first pro-debut attempt was thwarted this summer when his opponent in Wisconsin missed weight.

Saint Paul’s Giezwa Hobbs (2-0) and his opponent Ray Chacon (7-33) both weighed-in at 128 pounds for

the co-featured bout. Hobbs defeated Chacon last April in Minneapolis. You can read our latest story on Hobbs HERE.

Joe James (1-0, 1 KO) of Saint Cloud, Minnesota weighed in at 141.4 while his opponent Mark Slyter (1-2) was slightly less at 141.2. James says training camp went well and he is ready to entertain the Duluth fans.

“This camp went great” said James. “I got some good sparring in with Cruse Stewart and Nate Richardson. They pushed me and brought out the best of me. I’m coming into this fight a lot more prepared. Not that I wasn’t for my first fight though. I’ve boxed in Duluth a lot in the amateurs so it’s like home for me. The crowd always treats me like there own. I hope all my friends and family come to watch because I plan on displaying a lot of my skills. I’m excited and it should be a good night! I don’t know a lot about my opponent but I know he’s tough. My team came up with a great game plan and I just have to follow it and everything will fall in place.”

Marlin Sims (3-0, 2 KO’s) of Minneapolis learned yesterday that he would not be fighting on the show. Sims’ manager Eric Hinderaker says that Demetrius Wilson of Missouri signed for a different fight and said he would not be coming. He ended up making the trip but was 11 pounds over the 132 pound contract that Sims was on target for. Seconds Out Promotions grabbed flashy veteran Haskell Rhodes (26-3-1, 12 KO’s) of Las Vegas to fill in against Demetrius Wilson (2-9) of Florissant, MO at a higher weight. Sims told Minnesota Fight News before the fight that he was in top shape and looking forward to fighting again in Duluth.
