BRANT TARGETS MAJOR FIGHT FOLLOWING KNOCKOUT WIN
WBA #4, WBO #7 rated middleweight Robert “Bravo” Brant (21-0, 14 KOs) of Saint Paul, MN, punished “The Irish Ghost” Fitzpatrick (15-5, 6 KOs) of Cleveland before knocking him out in the third round on Friday night at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.
After outclassing Fitzpatrick in the opening round, Brant floored Fitzpatrick in the second round with a hard right uppercut. Brant landed another right handed uppercut to the head later in round three followed by a left hook that dropped Fitzpatrick for a second time. The bout was waved off by referee Edward Hernandez at 1:18 of the third round.
Brant is representing the state of Minnesota while living full time in Texas where he regularly spars with welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr among others. The work with Spence and company combined with the guidance provided by trainer Derrick James has Brant’s punching accuracy, defense, and all around ring generalship looking more polished than ever.
After the fight, Brant said that he is ready to step up to the next class of competition and possibly challenge for a major title. It was revealed before the fight that Brant had been on a short list to face WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders. But last night following the win, Brant said he would like to face WBA Middleweight world champion Daniel Jacobs next.
