CRUSE STEWART TO FACE KYRONE DAVIS ON DEC. 16 SHOWTIME ARMORY CARD HEADLINING DAVID MORELL, KEITH THURMAN VS EIMANTAS STANIONI BOUT RUMORED
Cruse “The Hitman” Stewart (8-2, 6 KO’s) of Maple Grove, MN will face 29 year old Kyrone Davis (17-3-1, 6 KO’s) of Wilmington, Deleware on the just announced December 16, 2023 Minneapolis Armory card which headlines world champion David Morrell Jr. on Showtime boxing’s final telecast. Fans should be treated to an exciting battle between two veteran middleweights who were both top tier amateurs.
Steward, 34, trains out of Ludy’s Boxing in Minneapolis and has been quietly working hard over the past few months to get back into top shape for this type of opportunity. He is represented by Salita Promotions and Rapacz promotions who both gave the green light to take the fight which is presented by Premier Boxing Champions. This will be the third Showtime boxing appearance for Stewart
Davis holds two victories at the Minneapolis Armory with both coming in 2021. He fought to a split draw with Anthony Dirrell in 2021 as well as a seventh round TKO loss to David Benevidez in the same year.
Rumors have begun to surface that former World Champion Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KO’s) could be added to the show. WBA world welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis (14-0, 9 KO’s) is the potential match-up for Thurman that has been named. The two were supposed to face off on a December PPV which was cancelled.
In what promises to be a historic night of boxing, local fan favorite David Morrell Jr. will return to The Armory in Minneapolis on Saturday, Dec. 16, to defend his WBA “Regular” Super Middleweight world title against highly regarded knockout artist Sena Agbeko of Ghana in the nights main event.
Morrell (9-0, 8 KOs), a native of Cuba who now calls Minneapolis home, is a big draw at The Armory, one of boxing’s premium venues. A win over Agbeko (28-2, 22 KOs) would solidify his standing as one of the elite boxers in the 168-pound division and put him in line for even bigger opportunities, including a potential mega-fight with unbeaten rival David Benavidez.
The Premier Boxing Champions card will be memorable for another reason: It’s the last hurrah for Showtime Championship Boxing. After 37 years of televising pro boxing globally, Showtime plans to exit the sport. The Armory card will be Showtime’s last boxing telecast.
