DAVID MORRELL JR. THROWS OUT FIRST PITCH AT TWINS GAME AS BENAVIDEZ FIGHT APPEARS SET FOR FALL
Minneapolis based WBA ‘regular” super middleweight champion David Morrell Jr. (9-0, 8 KO’s) and WBC interim super middleweight champion David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KO’s) appear to have verbally agreed to meet in October or November of this year. The fight will be televised on Showtime PPV. The confirmation came yesterday as Morrell Jr. was a special guest at the Minnesota Twins-Boston Redsox game in downtown Minneapolis.
Morrell Jr. was at the game along with Hall of Fame baseball great Tony Oliva, and friend and former MN State Bantamweight champion Jonathan Perez. Rumors of the super fight between Morrell Jr. and Benavidez have been circulating for weeks.
Robb Leer of Leer Communications says that Morrell Jr. will officially comment on the potential showdown with Benavidez this Saturday at the Minneapolis Armory’s next pro boxing show that features the return of “Golden” Caleb Truax and two world title bouts (view the full card here).
