Fight Preview: Ashkan Morvari vs. Tyler Nystrom – A Fan Friendly Battle with Familiar Corners

Minnesota boxing fans are in for a compelling matchup on May 17, 2025 at the Kent Freeman Arena in Detroit Lakes, MN as Ashkan Morvari (2-0, 1 KO) takes on Tyler Nystrom (2-2-1, 2 KOs) of Superior, WI in a 5 round middleweight showdown. The pro/am boxing event is presented by Ignite Fights.

Beyond the boxers themselves, an interesting subplot lies in their corners—Morvari is training with former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Truax, while Nystrom has added the guidance of Andy Kolle to his team, a former world rated contender who once shared the ring with Truax in one of the state’s most anticipated showdowns in 2009.

Morvari, an MMA standout, has looked sharp in his transition to boxing and is eager to make a statement.

“I’m pumped to step back into the ring and put on a show,” Morvari said. “Tyler Nystrom is a tough opponent, but I’ve been sharpening my tools with Caleb Truax, and when I let my hands go, people feel it. Fans can expect fireworks—I’m coming in strong, ready to box, and looking for a statement win. Don’t blink, because this one won’t be boring.”

Nystrom, known for his toughness and boxing abilities sees this as a big opportunity and isn’t fazed by Morvari’s fight experience or power.

“It’s going to be a fun fight because I know he will bring a lot of fans,” said Nystrom. “He’s experienced and will come to fight. I took the fight because I thought it would be a good opportunity to face an undefeated opponent with experience. I know he will be strong and I know he will try to tire me out, so I’m definitely not overlooking him. But I think it’s my fight to lose. I think he’s tailor-made for me. It’s up to me to stick to the game plan and fight my fight. It will be a good, tough fight.”

With two game boxers looking to make a statement and two respected trainers with a shared past, this fight carries an extra layer of intrigue.

The special night of boxing will include amateur bouts kicking the night off before the pro action begins.

Continuing the pro portion preview is a very intriguing heavyweight contest as Tommy Matlon (4-2) of Minneapolis, MN and Cayman Audie (3-1) of Hinckley, MN are set to clash in a 4 round bout.

Lorenzo Cardona Jr. (debut) of Fargo, ND meets Terrence Walker (2-5-1) of Minneapolis, MN in a 4 round light heavyweight bout.
