JAMES WAYKA WINS IN MICHIGAN

Jr Middleweight James Wayka of Wisconsin but now fighting out of MN’s ACR boxing gym (12-2) beat Mohamed Ali Diab (6-1-1) on Friday night at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Ringside reporter Pat Nichols shared with Minnesotaboxing.com his take on the bout.

“Wayka fought the perfect fight against Diab. He was brought in as the opponent against a local favorite, but he didn’t fight that way at all. Diab insists on using the half guard, keeping his left down around his waist and Wayka took advantage of that for the entire fight. I scored the bout three rounds to one for Wayka. He controlled the action through the first three rounds and limited Diab to landing one or two inconsequential shots at a time. Diab came out strong in the fourth knowing he needed the KO. Wayka was hurt early, but he recovered quickly and was never in real danger from that point forward.” To read Pat Nichols full FightNews report CLICK HERE. 2/1/04
