JIU-JITSU: VALHALLA BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU RESULTS

Minnesota Grapplers from all corners of the state brought their best to Valhalla’s latest installment of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Cage (and ring). Valhalla has hosted over 20 shows now since 2011. Two competition areas were set up side by side to help the activities run smoothly. An MMA cage, and roped in mats ran matches simultaneously. The unique setup and competitive spirit brought praise from both spectators and combatants.

Derek Getzel, Marc Renville, Justin Kimball, and Weston Droegemueller were all in the running for submission of the night as the matches flew by. Derek Getzel locked in another submission win against a Judo black belt/BJJ purple belt while giving up 80 pounds. The victory propelled Getzel of McCune’s Martial Arts into the lead for the night’s flashy prize, a $500 Celtic chainmail vest. Yet in the end, mixed martial artist Damion Hill would be the one walking away with the titles of the sub of the night and prize. Getzel put it best as he described Hill’s incredible submission.

“I had the midevil chain-mail in the bag until Damion Hill pulls a Peruvian necktie out of his butt for submission of the night. Always a good time though, can’t wait for the next one!”

Valhalla will be back later this year for one of their favorite shows which takes place on the night before Thanksgiving. During the last Thanksgiving show, a Viking battle Axe was given to the submission of the night winner. This past Saturday the Celtic chain-mail vest.  For this year’s Thanksgiving show, submission of the night winner will take home “Mjolnir”, also known as Thor’s Hammer.
