Heavyweight Joey Abell (31-9, 29 KO’s) was stopped in Canada moments ago by Oscar Rivas (18-0, 13 KO’s) in Showtime Extreme’s opening televised bout. With only 3 days to prepare for Rivas, Abell had a decent first round. Abell boxed and moved behind his jab and did land a good left hook as the round came to a close. While Abell tried to land his signature straight left, Rivas was trying to line up his own favorite punch, a looping right. Rivas came out more aggressively in the second and trapped Abell stationary along the ropes. Rivas landed a hard right to the forehead followed by 3 left hooks that sent Abell down and seated on the bottom ropes where Rivas landed a hard right to the jaw which put Abell down. The referee stopped his count and waived the fight off at :46 into round two.
