JOSH CLARK ADDED TO MECCA XVII THIS SATURDAY DECEMBER 4
It’s officially fight week for Ignite’s Mecca XVII taking place at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota this Saturday December 4, 2021. The professional boxing and Muay Thai show begin at 1 PM and goes into the night with the boxing portion set to begin at 6 PM. Ignite will also showcase high level jiu jitsu matches at Canterbury’s Expo Center on Friday, December 3rd. Tickets for “MECCA XVII” can be purchased HERE.
A late addition to the show was announced yesterday that puts Josh Clark (2-0) of Valhalla Combat Fridley/Strike Fitness Rogers, Minnesota in a four-round super lightweight bout against California’s Ryan Attebery (0-2). Ignite had been unable to match Clark until late but the Minnesotan is said to live in the gym and is ready to go.
There have been a few other changes since we last posted an update for Mecca’s boxing portion of the show (you can read that story HERE). We reported last week that Duluth’s Amy Lemenager suffered a broken hand during training camp and that her bout is off (read that story HERE.)
Due to a medical issue discovered during the licensing process, the opponent of Marlin Sims, Shauncy Perry was not cleared to fight. The bout will most likely be put together for a future show. Sims was obviously disappointed with the news as of his co-main event bout being cancelled.
Former world champion “Golden” Caleb Truax will be on commentary for IGNITE’s professional boxing portion of the show. If you can’t make it in person, watch the fights at the link below and hear Caleb call the action (CLICK HERE TO ORDER)
December 4th’s main event features undefeated “Super Bad” Tony Woods (8-0, 7 KOs) taking on “The Jackal” Jarvis-the Jackal Williams Sr (8-5-1, 5 KOs) in a middleweight showdown.
Woods, originally from Cedar Rapids, IA, now lives in Shoreview, MN and trains with former Minnesota State Champion Coach “Collateral Damage” Corey Rodriguez. “Super Bad” returns off of a 2nd round KO victory over Brandon Baue at Grand Casino Hinckley last month, a fight in which Baue’s jaw was broken. Woods hopes to look impressive and continue building his Minnesota fan base with a spectacular performance. Williams hails from St. Louis, MO and brings slick boxing skills and a wealth of experience to the bout. He has been in the ring with elite level competition and his last 6 opponents sport a combined record of 42-2-1 including notable prospects Nikita Ababiy, Cruse Stewart and Pachino Hill. Williams swears he will not lose this fight, and has been training to come into hostile territory and take the win.
Cayman Audie (1-0) will take on Dennys Reyes (1-1) in a 4 round battle. Both men are coming off knockout wins in October and are in shape and ready to go. Audie trains in Hinckley, MN with Tim Owen Taggart and the MLBO Boxing Club. Reyes trains with Valhalla Combat in the Twin Cities but originally boxed in Cuba.
Exciting local fighters will make their professional debuts to kick-off the show.
Darry Jones Jr. will make his debut against tough mixed martial artist Derek Gottlieb (0-1) in a light heavyweight battle between Minnesota fighters.
Minneapolis’ Robbie Loyde will take on Manakato fighting veteran Sam Hernandez in a 4 round light middleweight clash. Apple Valley’s Gavin Hendrickson will step in the ring with the crafty Dustin Heisse as he looks to get his professional career started on the right foot.
Muay Thai/Kickboxer Tommy Matlon (0-1) of Minneapolis will Riverside, Illinois’ Dominicc Hardy (debut) in four round heavyweight bout.
