LAKES AREA GOLDEN GLOVES BOXING PREVIEW
The Lakes Area Boxing Golden Gloves will host an afternoon of amateur boxing this afternoon at the Perham Area Community Center in Perham, MN. The show begins at 3 PM. Minnesotaboxing.com is gearing up for the trip to Perham and will be capturing photos of the action for boxers, family and fans which will be posted to our FACEBOOK PAGE afterward. We will also be live streaming the action to facebook (HERE) after getting the green light from former Upper Midwest Golden Gloves champion and event staff “Cowboy” Chris Holt this morning.
There are currently 13 bouts scheduled on the line-up posted below. The featured bout wrapping up the days action is the Region 4, 165 pound championship bout between Daveone Olive of St. Cloud Golden Gloves Boxing and Teddy Beaudion of the Bemidji Boxing Club.
Daveone Olive is an all around athlete who draws inspiration for today’s big match from his family, specifically his daughter and second daughter who is on the way. Daveone shared with us how he found the sport of boxing.
“The summer of 2017 I found out I was having a daughter” said Olive. At the time I was dedicated to basketball and my goal was to go over seas and eventually try to play in the NBA. A coworker of mine introduced me to boxing and I instantly fell in love with the sport which became an outlet for me. Growing up, I dealt with a lot of parental issues so I had a lot of unanswered questions and built up anger. Saint Cloud Golden Gloves became a home away from home. I’ve had my highs and lows with the sport. I’ve fallen down, I’ve wanted to quit, but I found the perfect “why” in my daughter to always get back up. To make that “why” 10x stronger I recently found out I’ll be having another daughter October 2021.”

“I expect a great fight, I’m excited to show what I’ve been working on these past couple months. I want to give the supporters a show they’ll be talking about hours after the lights go out.”
22 year old Teddy Beaudion has had between 50-55 amateur boxing since 2010 or so said coach Joe Lorenzi of Bemidji Boxing. After some setbacks, Lorenzi says Teddy is back healthy and refocused for today’s bout.
“Teddy was a runner up in 2019 at the UMGG to Blake Builder. He’s learned a lot from that match and keeps learning and getting better” said Lorenzi. “From a coaching stand point I feel Teddy can hang with anyone in the country at 165lbs if he is in shape, healthy and focused. It truly depends on what Teddy shows up. Today Teddy had to earn his way. Teddy boxed a few weeks ago at 178 pounds in Fargo. He had to train, run, eat and live healthy for this match. Now, Teddy lives in Duluth and has been training on his own, making the trips up to Bemidji to train with me and making healthy life choices. I have been training Teddy for the last 10 years or so off and on. We definitely have not always seen eye to eye. I have always been there for him and today I am very proud of him. He earned his way today. The fight is the bonus! Teddy said he is happy to have the opportunity to box today against a game opponent. He doesn’t know anything about him but is excited to share the ring with him today for the title!”
