MARK NELSON WORKED HIS 947TH PRO BOUT IN AUSTRALIA THIS SATURDAY.

Mark Nelson refereed the WBO junior middle weight world title bout between champion Tim Tszyu and challenger Brian Mendoza on Saturday night at the Gold Coast Convention Center in Broadbeach, Australia. This was the Minnesota based referee’s 947th professional bout of his career.

Tszyu (now 24-0, 17 KO’s) fought his way to a one-sided unanimous decision victory over Mendoza (now 22-3, 16 KO’s) although both boxers had good moments throughout the 12 rounds of action. Scores read 116-111, 116-112, and 117-111. Tszyu boxed at the Minneapolis Armory in 2022 which Nelson refereed while Mendoza has competed here three times (twice in 2022 and once in 2021 with Nelson refereeing that bout in ‘21).
