“Medina Mayhem” Main Event A Go After Weight Controversy – UPDATE

Rondale Hubbert (16-33-3, 10 KO’s) and his opponent Kenneth Davis Jr. (12-2-1, 4 KO’s) of Reno, Nevada weighed in earlier tonight for their main-event bout set for tomorrow (Thursday, October 24, 2024) at the Medina Ballroom in Hamel, MN. The two were contracted at 140 pounds. Hubbert came in at 144.6 pounds while Davis was 142 pounds. Hubbert told MinnesotaBoxing.com afterward that he had a conversation with the promoters who told him that if he agreed to pay Davis for the pounds over, that he would not need to cut weight. He agreed and proceeded to hydrate. Hubbert says that shortly after, he was told that his opponent Davis Jr. sent word that Hubbert would need to cut to 143 pounds or the fight was off. Hubbert declined to cut weight due to having already begun the re-hydrate process. As it stands at 8:30 PM on Wednesday night, Hubbert was unsure if the fight will take place. The two boxers had agreed to a weight of 142 pounds according to Hubbert prior to weigh-ins and The Minnesotan paid Davis an amount of his purse to make up for being 2.6 over.

Hubbert was excited to return to battle in Minnesota with his last local fight being on March 10th of 2023 in Duluth. Prior to that was all the way back in January of 2020 in Hinckley.

Theron Pappas (2-2-1, 2 KO’s) of South Dakota and Kahil Smoot are set to face off in a battle for the vacant Mid American heavyweight title over 8 rounds. Last time out, Pappas faced Colton Warner at Treasure Island Casino last April. Pappas weighed 305 pounds and Smoot came in at 246.4 pounds.

Southpaw Michael Demps (0-1) of Apple Valley, MN weighed 170.4 pounds and his opponent Rueben Johnson (0-6) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was 167.2 pounds. Demps lost a hard fought decision to Andree Reid in 2023.

Justus Pomeroy (2-0, 2 KO’s) of Winona, MN weighed 146.2 pounds while Thomas Ahrens (1-5) of was 146.6 pounds for their four round welterweight bout. Pomeroy is looking to pick up his third professional win while coming off of a first round knockout over Micah Youngbear last April.

Rumor is that Minnesotans Leo Medel and Sona Akale will spar in an exhibition bout at 165 pounds. Extreme Maximus is promoting the show.
