MMA: Brainerd’s “Bud Brawl” brings MMA, Grappling and Karate

This Saturday night Huff Entertainment presents “Bud Brawl” at the Brainerd, MN Curling Club. The show will feature live MMA with jiu-jitsu, grappling, and karate matches taking place during intermissions.

Headlining is Brainerd Lakes’ Marc “The Lumberjack” Hummel (3-5) in the main event against Fargo, North Dakota’s Alex Lennic. Hummel says that fans can expect to see the best professional showcase they have ever seen from him and he is ready to put on a show for the local fans.

” Training Camp was fantastic; no injuries, and minimum bumps and bruises” said Hummel. “I trained with both Start BJJ Minnesota locations in St. Cloud, and Start BJJ Baxter with Ultimate Martial Arts (UMA). This training was made possible by my sponsors that I am very grateful for. A-Affordable Bail Bonds, Chameleon Cafe, CraM ChroniCles Entertainment, and Lakes Area Property Partners.
I’m very comfortable with my weight bumping back up to 170 for this fight. Without having to cut as much, I feel like it’s lead to more energy throughout the end of the camp.
After coming off a few winnable-losses at lower weights, I decided to focus on nothing more than mat time and come back stronger than ever. Eventually this local hometown main-Event fight opportunity came along after consistently training for quite some time. Now, I really feel confident in my preparation for this Saturday. My Jiu-Jitsu game feels great, stand-up game is feeling strong, and my nutrition/diet is by far the best it’s ever been. The importance of nutrition has definitely proved itself to me throughout this camp. Fight fans can expect to see the best professional showcase they have ever seen out of the Lumberjack!

“My opponent is making his professional debut. I don’t know much about his amateur background, except for the fact that he has competed and done fairly well in a few jiu-jitsu tournaments. I am coming off of a few losses that I did not properly train for and he might be thinking I am a good opponent to test himself with for his first professional fight. Meanwhile, I am as excited as humanly possible to introduce him into the world of professionall Mixed Martial Arts.”

In the co-main event, Angel Pacheco of Saint Cloud’s Start BJJ will make his professional debut against upset minded striker Ash Majek of Illinois. Pacheco had an amateur MMA record of 8-4 and has boxed in over 50 matches as an amateur. Majek recently lost a hard fought decision in his pro MMA debut to Jay Paulson.

“I think the beginning of the fight will be very competitive with some big shots landing” said Pacheco. ” I know Ash is a very tough opponent and he is a skilled striker with surprising submission skills as well. He is a hard guy to put away. I think as I push the pace on him he will get tired and I will begin to land significant shots and put him away. Don’t get it twisted, if there is an opportunity to take him down I will. I feel on the ground is the path of least resistance for the win! Overall I feel I am the better fighter but this is why we fight. I can’t wait to put on a show. If anyone has ever watched me fight they know it will be a crowd pleaser for sure.”

Undefeated Aitkin, Minnesota amateur Noah Landrus will face Brainerd’s Andy Kidrowski in another featured bout.

” I am truly excited to be a part of bringing MMA back to the Brainerd Lakes area” said Former UFC vet a Bud Brawl matchmaker Brock Larson. “Brainerd is my home and is where my heart is”.

Justin Gothier of Alexandria vs. Sean Conlon of Bemidji and Logan Taylor of Brainerd against Mike Wall of Rosemount kick off the action. Brock Larson along with UFC heavyweight Maurice Greene will be available for fans to meet and take photos with prior to the show.
