MMA: DAN MORET FEATURED THIS FRIDAY ON AXS TV

Dan “The Hitman” Moret (11-3) of The Academy in Brooklyn Center, MN will be back on the Legacy Fighting Alliance stage this Friday, June 30th at the Firelake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Moret is scheduled to face Legacy Fighting and Bellator veteran Derrick Adkins (9-3) of Oklahoma. The fight will be a featured bout on Legacy Fighting Alliances LFA 15 card and will be shown live on AXS TV.

Moret had a grueling training camp in Arizona at The MMA Lab which is home to many well known and talented world class fighters (see who here). One of his main sparring partners was Johnny Case, who fought Minnesotan Tony Martin last weekend in what many feel should have been UFC fight of the night. Moret says that it was Case who helped set him up in Arizona for training camp.

” UFC fighter Johnny Case, who had fought a lot of his earlier fights in Minnesota and Iowa invited me to Arizona to train. We have known each other a long time and we were able to get a lot of good training and work in. I was there in Arizona training for the May 19th fight and then came right back after a short break to train for this one, basically working with all top level coaches and training partners while there. We’re all on the same page, same training schedule, and same weight class, so it went real well. It couldn’t have turned out better.”

Moret was supposed to face American Top Team, Savage, Minnesota’s Brandon Jenkins on May 19th at LFA 12 at the Mystic Lake Casino but medical complications due to a big weight cut by Jenkins forced that fight to be scratched at weigh-in’s.

“Originally I was supposed to fight Ashkan Morvari, who recently made his return” said Moret. “I know he had a fight last December, but hadn’t fought for a few years before that. He ended up having a rib injury though about two weeks before our fight. So his teammate Brandon Jenkins stepped in to take the fight as a replacement. He was apparently pretty heavy at the time but thought he could make the weight by fight time. I weighed in at the 156 pound limit. He came in later and said right away to the commission that he was going to be over. Brandon stepped on the scale at 158.4, so just about 2.5 over. He left to cut the weight and it wasn’t until later that night that we found out Brandon had passed out in the sauna trying to cut the weight. A security guard had seen him passed out and they had an ambulance on site so they took him right to the hospital. And thankfully so because I guess he had some heart rhythm problems and some kidney things going on.  LFA took care of me though  because I was there, I made weight, and was ready to fight. The very next night in the locker room, I was approached by the guys at LFA and offered this fight against Derrick Adkins.”

Derrick Adkins is an accomplished mixed martial artist that also has a record of (5-1) as a pro boxer with years of experience in Jiu Jitsu. Moret describes Adkins stand up as being more of a brawler and says his ground game is good also from what he’s seen on older film.

“I know that he’s fought for Legacy a couple of times and also Bellator as well where he’s beaten some decent guys. He looks to be a tough guy that is well rounded. He’s had a few professional boxing matches and is a purple belt as well in Jiu-Jitsu. It’s a fight I like though because I feel like I am better then him in all areas.  I am going into this fight feeling like I can win standing or on the ground which is nice because I won’t feel like I have to force anything.”

“This is the best I have ever felt” Moret continued. “Moving back up to this weight class of 155 pounds was the right move. I fought some tough guys at 145 from all around the world. Jiu Jitsu black belts, division one wrestlers, and kick boxers. But I never fought quite the same at 145 and didn’t compete the way I knew I could. I’ve never felt as good as I do now in a camp. Going with the caliber of guys in this training camp, Benson Henderson, Johnny Case, and all of the other UFC, Bellator, and LFA fighters that are at The Lab and the pace that is pushed there, I’ve never been in better shape or condition. I just feel so prepared right now. I’m really excited for this opportunity to get out there and compete and put on exciting fights. I feel like I am in a really good place and enjoying my fighting career.”

The fighters, including Moret who are competing in the televised portion of tomorrow night’s LFA/AXS TV bouts weighed in earlier tonight live on AXS TV’s Fight page. You can watch the full video at the link below. Friday night’s live telecast begins at 8PM Central time.
