MMA: LANDRUS DEFENDS TITLE AGAINST YOUNG IN A-TOWN

Minnesota’s top amateur lightweights are set to throwdown on March 7th, 2020 when Driller Promotions 155 pound champion Noah Landrus (8-0) and challenger Davi Young (5-0) collide. The main event at A-Town Throwdown XVI leads MMA’s return to the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Austin, MN.

“I could not be more excited for this match up” said Jeremy Bjornberg of Driller Promotions. “Two elite athletes with the wrestling background to match and underrated striking. This is up there with the best amateur fights we have ever put together, one of the best fights period. Noah has been an elite champion and Davi is now knocking on the door to see if he has what it takes to take the throne. We are having a custom, one of a kind belt made for the occasion. You won’t want to miss this and the people of Austin are very fortunate!”

Landrus, of Aitkins, MN is a life long wrestler. Now training at Start BJJ in Saint Cloud, Landrus says he is excited to defend his title and make a statement doing so. Landrus claimed the Driller Promotions Lightweight title by defeating Jamie Naaze by first round arm triangle choke last May.

“I know he’s well rounded and can strike as well as grapple” said Landrus. “I train with high level guys and have one of the best coaches possible so I will be prepared. He’s definitely more athletic than me in every way but I’m used to that. I’m excited to test myself and make a statement.”

Like his opponent, Davi Young was a star wrestler before turning to MMA. He made a name for himself at Apple Valley high school and wrestled with team USA. Young trains at Spartan Martial Arts in Oakdale where his well rounded style is molded.

“I think the fight is going to be amazing” said Young. “I’ve never done a headliner before so this is going to be exciting. Not only for me, but for the fans too. I’m very excited about this. He’s not someone to look past. He’s not someone to just brush off. I need to come ready and be ready to brawl and prepare for war.”

“I’m going to say that this is going to be an absolutely phenomenal fight” Young continued. “I’m going up to 155 and that will be my weight from now on. I’m excited. People should definitely tune into this one. You’re going to see two of the best in Minnesota, in the Midwest going at it from two different weight classes. This is going to be a bar burner.”

A-Town Throwdown XVI takes place at the Holiday Inn Austin Conference Center in Austin, MN on March 7, 2020. More bouts will be announced as the date closes in.
