MMA: LATE RESULTS (STOEHR,WIGGS)
BONNIE STOEHR DEFEATS BRIDGETT NIELSON
Saint Paul’s Bonnie Stoehr (4-2) won the battle between southpaws against Bridgett Nielson (3-5) last Saturday (December 3rd) night in Nevada. Stoehr used her size and reach to win rounds when the fighters stood and traded. The Minnesotan used take downs in the closing moments of the first and second to leave no doubt in those rounds. The third round was back and forth until another take down by Stoehr scored with :40 remaining in the fight. After taking an illegal kick to the face while in half guard, Stoehr lit up Nielson with punches to the face as the fight came to a close. The match was a 135 pound amateur featured bout for Tuff-N-Uff Promotions and the victory was unanimous on all cards.
ALEX WIGGS DROPS CLOSE DECISION
24 year old Alex “The Lion” Wiggs (5-3) of Minneapolis, MN lost a unanimous decison to Anthony Gutierrez (9-3) of Kansas City last Saturday (December 3rd) in Missouri. Gutierrez was on point with his leg kicks but Wiggs was the aggressor behind punches, inside fighting, and take down/slams in round one. Gutierrez came out strong in round two again with kicks while Wiggs scored another take down to bring the fight to the mat where it stayed for a bit. Not much action took place after the fight returned to the fighters standing and clinching. Wiggs began round three aggressive with punches and kicks this time. He also scored a short lived take down after Gutierrez was back to throwing leg kicks. The fight came down to the sharper leg kicks by Gutierrez versus the more diversified attacks from Wiggs. All three judges scored the fight for Gutierez 30-27.
