MMA: LFA 29 MYSTIC LAKE FRIDAY NIGHT
The main event of this Friday nights LFA 29 will crown a new LFA bantamweight champion when eight-time UFC vet Chico Camus battles blue chip prospect Ricky Simon for the vacant title. LFA 29 – Camus vs. Simon takes place Friday, December 15th at the Mystic Lake Showroom in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The entire main card will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
Camus (18-7) returns to the LFA Octagon with one thing on his mind. The “King of Milwaukee” wants his crown. He wants twelve pounds of gold wrapped around his waist in the same weight class where he made his UFC debut in 2012. After competing inside the famed UFC Octagon eight times for over three years, Camus signed with the RFA and won back-to-back main events for the promotion at flyweight. Camus continued his reign of terror as a bantamweight at the start of 2017 by defeating Darrick Minner in the co-main event of LFA 2. After picking up another notable win at bantamweight over Andrew Whitney at the regional level in September, Camus had built a case for an LFA title shot that was impossible to ignore.
Simon (10-1) makes his LFA debut with a sterling résumé. The Vancouver, Washington native made a name for himself throughout the Pacific Northwest with a perfect amateur record before winning his first seven professional fights. The 25-year-old’s stock and reputation as a can’t miss super prospect is currently at an all-time high after he won a fight in front of Dana White in August on the UFC President’s new hit reality television show Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series (DWTNCS). Simon then signed on with LFA with the intention of establishing himself as the top 135-pound prospect in the sport. He will undoubtedly earn that illustrious status if he is able capture the LFA title by defeating a surging eight-time UFC vet at LFA 29.
The co-main event of LFA 29 will feature the return of Mike “The Marine” Richman (18-7). The U.S. Marine Corps vet will return to the LFA Octagon in his home state of Minnesota a much bigger version of himself. He will be moving up to 155-pounds at LFA 29 for the first time since he competed on twelfth season of the UFC’s hit reality television show The Ultimate Fighter (TUF 12), seven and a half years ago. Richman went on to make a name for himself in Bellator where he competed twelve times, which includes three tournaments. He earned six wins via KO inside the Bellator cage, while becoming one of their biggest stars.
Richman will face Jeff “The Administrator” Peterson (8-4), who has made a name for himself in his last two fights by taking out an undefeated prospect and a local fan favorite. Peterson now looks to establish that the Peterson “administration” also includes administering losses to established veteran stars in the sport. Peterson is riding a 5-fight win streak, but it was his last two wins that have created a stir at the top of the LFA lightweight rankings. Peterson handed undefeated prospect Bobby Lee the first loss of his career in May at LFA 12. He then defeated local fan favorite Brandon Jenkins in August at LFA 20. Peterson now has his sights set on the biggest name opponent of his career when he tangles with Richman at LFA 29.
“I’m excited to bring the final LFA event of 2017 to Minnesota”, stated Soares. “This will be our fourth show in the state this year. Mystic Lake has been a great partner and we look forward to crowning a new bantamweight champion at LFA 29 at the Mystic Lake Showroom on December 15th.”
