MMA: LFA RESULTS FROM MYSTIC LAKE
Legacy Fighting Alliance brought another high energy MMA show to the Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota on December 15, 2017. The main event turned out to be one of the bloodiest fights to ever take place in Minnesota. New LFA Bantamweight champion Ricky Simon (11-1) defeated veteran Chico Camus (18-8, 1 NC) by unanimous decision over five rounds. By the time the fight was over, the fighters and canvas were painted red and the air had a faint smell of copper. Both fighters had there moments but Simon was stronger and more effective while standing and also when the fight went to the ground.
The co-featured fight between surging Wisconsin born Jeff Peterson (9-4) and Minnesota’s Mike Richman (18-8) was highly entertaining. The general opinion prior to the fight was that Richman was either going to win a striking match or Peterson would win a ground fight. Surprisingly, it was Peterson who walked away with the win in a fight that largely took place with both men engaging in a striking
battle. Peterson impressed everyone with his kicks and ability to trade with Richman’s world class punches in the first two rounds. However, most felt Richman’s body and head punches were dominant. Richman landed thudding body shots that froze Peterson throughout the first two rounds and he appeared to be busier, more accurate, and land the better damaging blows. Peterson rallied in the third by taking Richman to the canvas where he kept him for most of the round. Peterson was not able to capitalize on the better position with damaging blows, but he controlled the action other than a late rally by Richman when the fight concluded with both men on there feet. Both fighters stock rose after a fun battle but countless jaws dropped around the venue when Peterson was announced the winner. Rumors of a rematch between the two are popping up for LFA’s return to Minnesota on March 2nd, 2018.
