MMA: TONY MARTIN POUNDS OUT DECISION OVER CASE AT UFC 112

Minnesota’s Tony Martin (12-3) out slugged rival Johnny Case (22-6) of Arizona earlier tonight in a preliminary bout at UFC Fight Night 112 over three rounds of heated action. Martin’s strong ground game is well known but it was his powerful and accurate striking behind the jab and hard counter punches that left Case bloody and hurt by the end of the fight.

The 27 year old Minnesotan won the second and third rounds in impressive fashion following a close and hard fought opening round. Case also had his moments as the two fighters traded toe to toe from start to finish but faded due to the punishment that was delivered by Martin. The fighters kept the action standing nearly all three rounds until Martin took Case down with twenty seconds left in the final round. Martin had hurt Case moments earlier with a head shot before going for the take down. Once on the ground, Martin locked in a Kimura that most likely would have finished the fight but the horn sounded to end the battle before he could get the finish. Final scores read 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

The convincing victory is further proof that Martin is dangerous at the top level both on the ground and on his feet.

“Case is a really tough fighter” said Martin to the crowd after being declared the winner. “I feel like it was a fight of the night performance by him. A lot of people doubted my striking coming in here. I made it a point to show that I can strike with anyone. Johnny’s an elite striker and I feel like I easily out struck him. He landed some good shots but I definitely landed more heavy shots and had him in more danger.”
