MMA: A-TOWN THROWDOWN XII FEATURES HILL, AMMERMAN

Driller Promotions has announced the full line-up for “A-Town Throwdown XII” and it promises to be another stellar show. Two title fights and over 20 MMA bouts are scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 16th in Austin, MN. The main event features two explosive wrestler-strikers as Valhalla Combat’s Damion “The Wolverine” Hill (12-8) of Brooklyn Park, MN meets Iron Works Training Center co-owner Nick Ammerman (3-0). Fan and insider predictions for the welterweight showdown appear to be split down the middle.

Damion Hill, 25, says that Taekwondo was his first introduction into self defense as a kid before he began wrestling in middle school. “The Wolverine” then studied Judo with coach James Clark when he was 17 and had already had his first MMA fight by the age of 18. Not only is Hill a veteran of 20 professional MMA bouts, but he’s also boxed professionally 16 times against local and Nationally ranked prospects. Hill leaves everything in the cage when he competes and is a dangerous opponent for anyone, especially when given this much time to prepare for a fight.

“My opponent looks like he should be an NFL linebacker, but doesn’t move as well” said Hill.  “He seems like he likes to stand but I don’t think he has any type of stand up background and you can see it in his fights. I believe he’s only a stand up fighter because he has no ground game. Honestly the fans should expect an early finish. I see me ending it two ways. Either him submitting to strikes or tapping out to my triangle. Either way, it’s gonna be my hand raised at the end of the night. He’s going to expect me to stand and probably doesn’t respect my wrestling. But I’m ready to show the new Damion.”

At 36, I found that I have more energy and am much more mentally tough than I have ever been” said Ammerman. “I feel like I’ve healed up old injuries, so I made a choice to start fighting again in competition. I’ve never left the gym this whole time since taking a break from competition. I was helping the young guys and trying to build a fight team and by doing this, I can honestly say that I felt I was the hardest working guy in and out of the gym so figured it was only right to compete again. Just makes sense and I love to fight!

I have seen Damion fight a few times and once on our shows a few years back. He likes to fight for sure. He’s not afraid to stand and bang it out. I like that! That is what makes a fight and makes it entertaining to the fans. Damion will do his thing and I’ll do my thing. I’m aware of some of his strengths and weaknesses but I don’t focus on what Damion is going to do. I’ll worry about what I can do and keep it that simple. If things are going well in the fight, then great. If not, I’ll adjust. I really don’t treat these things as more than what they really are. There is a winner and a loser. Ill do everything to be on that winning side. Fans can expect a good fight. It has the potential to be a 3 round bloody fight or it has the potential for a fast knock out. I’m good with both.
