UPDATE: LOCAL AMATEUR BOXERS COMPETE AT USA NATIONALS
The 2020 USA Boxing National Championships kicked of this past Friday, March 26 in Shreveport, Louisiana. The event marks the first USA Boxing national tournament in 466 days.
Morgan McDonald of the Lucy Laney Boxing Academy says that through April 3, the tournament is expected to bring over 2,100 boxers to the Louisiana city to compete for the 125 national titles that are up for grabs. COVID-19 protocols have been put into place to help control possible outbreaks.
Minnesota boxers who made the trip to Louisiana include:
Timothy Greer, Junior Male – 119lbs (54kg)
Ronald Lee, Pee Wee Male – 114lbs (52kg)
Morgan McDonald, Intermediate Male – 95lbs (43kg)
Jaquon Montgomery, Junior Male – 114lbs (52kg)
Ricardo Pates, Bantam Male – 80lbs (36kg)
Z’karion Walker, Pee Wee Male – 80lbs (36kg)
Lavendar Nelson, Pee Wee Female – 90lbs (41kg)
Team Minnesota has yet to compete as of Saturday but will be in the ring Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. Timothy Greer, 119lbs and Jaquon Montgomery, 114 will compete on Sunday.
Intermediate Jaquon Montgomery, 114 lbs and Bantam Ricardo Pates, 80 lbs both compete on Monday. Ronald Lee, 114lbs will box in the championship Pee Wee bout on Wednesday.
Lavender Nelson, 90lbs was unopposed Female Pee Wee champion.
