UPDATE FROM FIGHTNEWS.COM: 2012 U.S. Olympian cruiserweight Michael Hunter (11-0, 8 KOs) of Las Vegas made quick work of Phil Williams (15-8-2, 14 KOs) of Minnesota stopping him in the first round in a scheduled eight round bout. A series of punches by Hunter knocked down Williams. He got up but didn’t want to continue and the referee stopped the fight at 2:44.

Minnesota State Cruiserweight Champion Phil “The Drill” Williams (15-7-2, 14 KO’s) weighed in earlier tonight in Anaheim, California for Saturday night’s showdown against 2012 Olympian and pro prospect Michael Hunter (10-0 7 KO’s). The two boxers each weighed within the cruiserweight limit with Williams tipping the scales at 198 pounds and Hunter coming in at 197.2. Showtime will be televising a portion of the card but the Williams-Hunter bout will most likely be off TV. We will know tomorrow if the off TV fights will be streamed on Showtime’s website which is something they have done many times in the past.
Word is that Williams had a tremendous training camp for this fight. Williams sparred rounds with Kenyan heavyweight Raymond Ochieng at the Uppercut Gym in Minneapolis.
