Pro Boxing Set To Return To Treasure Island Casino After 15 Year Absence
Professional boxing is set to return to the Treasure Island Casino in Welch, Minnesota on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Matt McGovern of World Fighting Championships will promote the event in association with Rapacz Boxing. Minnesota boxer Colton Warner (6-1, 4 KO’s) of Apple Valley, Mn is confirmed to be boxing against an opponent to be determined. Warner is grinding away in training camp for his next fight on a WFC card against Dajuan Calloway (8-3, 7 KO’s) of Cleveland, Ohio in a heavyweight clash on January 26, 2024.
It will have been over 15 years since the last time pro boxing took place at Treasure Island on September 20, 2008. Minnesota Boxing Hall of Fame boxers Anthony “The Bullet” Bonsante and Matt “The Predator” Vanda boxed separately in the featured bouts that night. Bonsante defeated Carl Daniels by a wide unanimous decision and Vanda stopped Dezi Ford in the 8th and final round of his bout. The two had met a year prior in one of the biggest rivalry bouts in Minnesota state history. Raphael Butler, Cerresso Fort, Harley Kilfian, Terrance Trottier Jr., and Daniel Schlienz also competed on that Treasure Island show.
The Mille Lacs Band Of Ojibwe will commission the event in April. The Treasure Island Resort and Casino is located at 5734 Sturgeon Lake Rd, Welch, MN 55089.
