“It was a great night. I was so happy to see everyone there full show. I think all the fights were awesome all the fighters put on a show in my case my fight was rough my opponent kept on trying to hold he was hard to figure out to land some punches cuz he just wanted to hold and stay on the ropes I wanted to give my ppl a good show or landing punches back and forth. He kept on hitting with low blows until I got tired of it and gave one back, lol. Last round, I wanted to go out and give it all to see if I can get a ko to end the night for my fans but couldnt get it over all I was happy with the win and that everyone came out to show us support and love it was and amazing night!”

“ I had a tough opponent that came to fight, I used my skills and team to get the victory. I’m thankful we both were able to go home to our families.”

Corey Thompson (5-2) def Wayman Carter (4-8-1) by TKO (ref stoppage) at :51 of round 2

“ I felt great to be back in the ring. I actually had an injury a few weeks before the bout which made things difficult but I wasn’t going to be denied (I don’t know if you want to mention the injury in the wrap up!)

This last year has been difficult, working with a new coach all while working full time and running the boxing gym 3 days a week with 5 boxing practices and 6 people I train 1:1, hour long sessions twice a week. I’m really happy with my new trainer Daleco James, and I feel like I can reach the top with him in a couple years.

My opponent was supposed to be tricky. He is 6ft 4 inches and has a 80 inch reach (I have a 75 inch reach). His style is awkward and he’s beaten some good fighters (2 years ago he beat a 19-4 pro cruiserweight) but I could tell from the first punch I landed, he was scared and wanted out. I knew I had him, but I took my time and wanted to get him out cleanly without taking punches (I took just 2 punches in this fight). When I had him in the ropes, I landed a body shot he didn’t see, not full power, so when he went down, I screamed at him to get up. It was kind of like a Garcia vs Davis shot, I felt he could have gotten up but he was hurt, and his will was broken.”

“The show was really professional and well done. Big Q promotions impressed me. We brought a big crowd into this show, and made a statement. I can’t tell you how many people there were impressed with my performance, which is strange because I was just getting started. I’m ready for what’s next, which looks to be a March fight in which I will be the Main Event (details on that one to be announced).”

Tim Bender def Terrance Lee by KO (didn’t beat the count – he took a knee and couldn’t get up at 2:00 of round 2.

“My original opponent fell out about 2 weeks before the fight, but was happy to get another orthodox fighter since I had been working on setting everything up with the jab all camp and boxing to my right. His name was Terrance Lee and he was 2-1. He ended up missing weight by a couple lbs but I wasn’t worried about it.
Rd 1 I was taking a bit slow seeing what he was working with. He was throwing big left hooks and right hands early on. He was loading up a bit and while a couple got through I was able to get a glove on the majority of them and just started to get to work. I like to pressure and push people back onto the ropes where I can begin to work my combinations and angles.
Rd 1 was close in my mind. Rd 2 I started to work the gameplan a little more having him against the ropes the majority of the rd and started landing some hard shots on the inside. They may not have been crowd pleaser type shots since I wasn’t loading up but they were landing really stiff I could tell they were starting to have an effect. Rd 3 was more of the same. I could tell he was getting more and more tired as I was pressuring him. He kept trying to clinch but I was able to keep breaking apart and continued working my combination. The ref was warning him that he needed to fight back or he would stop it and so I just kept punching, picking my shots. I landed some hard body hooks and a really hard rear upper. When he tried to break away for space he took a knee as I was walking him down and didn’t beat the count. I was hoping he would get up again since I felt I had a lot more in the tank. A lot to work on and improve but I’m very happy with the outcome.
I want to thank my sponsors Brookies Fish Market, my coaches, my teammates, my wife and my family and friends for all of the support. Big thanks to Scott T for matchmaking and Big Q for putting on another great show!”
