Marcus Oliveira (26-1-1, 21 KO’s) of Pottawatomie, KS stopped Florida’s Dionisio Miranda (22-13, 19 KO’s) in the third of a scheduled 8 round Light Heavyweight bout at Aldrich Arena in Saint Paul, MN. Oliveira seemed fine with giving away the first round or two as he let Miranda come forward and throw punches. Not much landed because of the tight defense of Oliveira, but Miranda was busier in terms of punch output. Oliveira was all business as he came out for round three however. Oliveira went right after Miranda with jabs before throwing a hard straight right to the head that dropped Miranda in a corner. Miranda stayed on the canvas holding his head as referee Mark Nelson counted him out. The official time of the stoppage was :33 into the third round. In the co-feature, Duarn Vue (6-0, 2 KO’s) of Madison, Wisconsin out pointed hometown fighter Brad Patraw (10-8, 5 KO’s) of Saint Paul in a Super Featherweight bout. At the conclusion, it seemed like a tough fight to score as Patraw was the slippery defensive, counter puncher, who also mixed it up. Vue on the other hand was the aggressive, in your face brawler. And each fighter had there moments and good rounds. Yet two judges scored the fight surprisingly wide at 59-55, while the third had it 58-56 all for Vue. Lightweight Jeremy McLaurin (11-8, 6 KO’s) of Saint Paul, MN stopped Duluth, MN’s Trevor Marmon (2-5-1, 2 KO’s) at 2:49 of the opening round. The action was intense while it lasted with McLaurin and Marmon going right at one another. Marmon fired shots at McLaurin’s head and body but McLaurin was hard to hit along the ropes. McLaurin began landing hard right hands that caught Marmon flush. A right-left, right-left-right combination staggered Marmon into the ropes where the fight was waived off. Bradon Jenkins (1-0, 1 KO) of Shakopee, MN stunned Charles Meier (8-4, 6 KO’s) of Coon Rapids, MN stopping him at 2:05 of the 1st round. Jenkings dropped Meier twice before the bout was stopped by the referee with Meier on his feet. Jake Backus (5-2, 1 KO) of Mounds View won a unanimous decision over Sirwan Ibrahim (1-2, 1 KO) in a Super Bantamweight bout. Backus swept all scorecards including a 10-8 4th and final round after dropping Ibrahim at the final bell. Despite the wide scores, Ibrahim proved to be tough as nails while Backus displayed the more polished skills. The two traded punches from beginning to end. Heavyweight Mengistu Zarzar of Brooklyn Park, MN improved to (2-0, 2 KO’s) with a first round TKO win over James Roe (1-6, 1 KO) of Ramsey, MN. Zarzar landed a right to the head and followed up with more right’s as he pummeled Roe in a corner where the fight was stopped by the referee at 1:57 of the opening round. 23 year old Cuban born Ramon Luis Nicolas (5-2, 4 KO’s) was disqualified in the second round for hitting his opponent Deangelo Curtis (1-2) while he was on the canvas. Nicolas sent Curtis down with a left to the body and then unloaded a right to the head while Curtis was still down. Referee Mark Nelson followed the rules and disqualified Nicolas at 1:15 of the second round. |
