SATURDAY RESULTS FROM MINNEAPOLIS, MN
18 year old Celso “El Niño” Ramirez (3-0, 3 KO’s) of Minneapolis knocked out Gabriel Morris (4-30-3, 0 KO’s) of Ohio in the main event Saturday night at El Nuevo Rodeo Restaurant in Minneapolis, MN. Ramirez dropped Morris three times in the welterweight bout. A right to the body dropped Morris in round three and the final knockdown, a quick right uppercut along the ropes moments later ended the fight when referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off with Morris on the canvas.
“He was a tough guy that came to fight” said Ramirez. “But the hard work we put in training helped a lot for me as well as for my brothers (Circle of Discipline boxers) who fought on the show.”
Jonathan “J-Fuego” Perez (12-0, 7 KO’s) of Minneapolis stayed unbeaten after North Dakota’s Tomi Archambault (1-9, 1 KO’s) could not recover from a third round body shot knockdown in a featherweight bout. Perez was set to face Saint Paul’s Brad Patraw for the vacant MN state featherweight title until Patraw had to pull out because of family member’s surgery a few weeks back.
Super welterweight VeShawn Owens (2-0, 2 KO’s) of Minneapolis stopped Wisconsin’s Antoine Elerson (2-16-1, 2 KO’s) a minute into the third round. Owens dropped Elerson with a straight right hand within the first minute of the fight. Elerson was up by the count of 8 but had a cut over his left eye. Elerson moved well on his feet though to stay out of the range of Owens for the rest of the round. Owens began to rough up Elerson in the second, particularly with body shots. The end came in the third round as Elerson’s movement began to slow. After going back to the body, owens landed a double jab combo to the body and over hand right to the temple that dropped Elerson in a neutral corner where he could not beat the count at about a minute into round three.
“The Dynamic Warrior” Mengistu Zarzar (4-0, 3 KO’s) of Brooklyn Park, MN knocked out Leonard “The Greatest One” Marsaw (0-1) of New Hope, MN in round 4 of a cruiserweight bout. Zarzar hurt Marsaw early in the first and spent the next few rounds trying to finish Marsaw with heavy shots. Zarzar was finally able to land the finishing shot, a hard left hook to the head in the fourth round that dropped Marsaw and put an end to the bout.
Gavino “Huesitos” Guaman (2-0) of River Falls, Wisconsin won a 4 round unanimous decision over Salim Koroma (0-1) in a lightweight bout. Guaman is scheduled to return to action on June 4th in Milwaukee and then July 7 in Madison, Wisconsin.
Welterweight Stan Martyniouk (15-2, 3 KO’s) of California (by way of Estonia) defeated Lionel Jimenez (2-12, 2 KO’s) of Illinois by fourth round TKO. Martyniouk was in control of the action throughout the entire fight and referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off in the fourth after Jimenez was taking too much punishment. It was the first time in Jimenez’s career he had been stopped inside the distance. Time of the stoppage was
Antoine Knight (4-20, 1 KO) of Indiana was victorious over Leshaun Blair (4-33) of Tennessee in a super bantamweight bout.
