“SPRING FLING” ST. CLOUD AMATEUR BOXING RESULTS – HTOO AND RUIZ THRILL FANS
Hser Htoo of White Bear Lake’s Backyard Boxing and Jesus “JJ” Ruiz of Saint Cloud Golden Gloves thrilled a packed St. Cloud Armory in Saturday, March 9th, 2024’s 119 pound main event bout. Replays of the classic showdown between legends Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya repeated in my head while watching as Htoo, the shorter boxer, attacked out of the southpaw stance with unorthodox-hard punches from all angles. Ruiz kept a nice distance and countered Htoo using a strong jab, a few well placed upper cuts, and a fiery will to win. The fast pace favored Htoo by round three and the judges awarded him the decision win although the rounds were competitive and the fight was close and entertaining. Htoo has already secured a spot at the National Golden Gloves tournament in Detroit on May11th – May 19th, 2024 unopposed at 112 pounds.
