SUPERIOR’S TYLER NYSTROM EXCITED TO MAKE PRO DEBUT TONIGHT
Tyler Nystrom is one of Minnesota’s next up and comers looking to make noise in the sport and he will have the chance to entertain fans and showcase his skills tonight as promoter Quincy Caldwell and Dalton Outlaw of Element Gym present professional boxing at Element in Saint Paul, MN. The show kicks off at 6 PM CST and you can also purchase tickets online at www.qfights.com.
Nystrom was set to make his pro debut in Duluth last March but his fight fell apart. In stepped mixed martial artist and former amateur boxer Jesse Wannemacher and Nystrom still had the chance to get in the ring without headgear and mix it up in a last second exhibition bout. The Exhibition was so exciting that former world champion Caleb Truax told Minnesotaboxing.com ringside that it was one of the most exciting exhibitions he’d ever witnessed. Truax (and myself) were impressed with the speed, power, and boxing ability of Nystrom that night.
That was a fun experience fighting at the sports garden in Duluth, I don’t have a massive amateur background but I’m 26 and the window in this sport is small and I thought what better way to turn pro than in my backyard in front of my friends and family” said Nystrom. “Jesse is an experienced MMA fighter and I have sparred with him before so it was fun to put on a show for the fans. Wish it would of been my debut so I could have some momentum coming into this fight but that’s the sport.”
The 26-year-old Nystrom is from Superior, Wisconsin and says he got into combat sports at the age of 19 at Lorenzi’s boxing.
“My girlfriend (who’s his wife now) at the time was working in Lorenzi’s Boxing Gym in Proctor, MN in the nutrition shake shop and I would go visit her and then kinda wanted to get into it. I started to box for a little bit and then ended up getting into MMA at Inner Strength Martial Arts in Superior and had my first MMA fight after about 3 months of training which I had no business doing but I fell in love with it. Then I started training boxing at Lorenzi’s Boxing and fought in both boxing and MMA simultaneously for a couple years until I just started to focus on boxing.”
Nystrom will face Missouri’s Chris Porter who has two draws and two losses so far as a pro. Porter has gone the distance in each fight and last fought to a stalemate against Minnesota’s Andree Reid at Element last December.
I’m excited and I’m ready to fight Saturday, I’m moving down to junior middleweight at 160lbs and I think I found my sweet spot because I feel big, fast and sharp and I can’t wait to fight Saturday.
