TITLE FIGHT ASSIGNMENT CANCELLED ON REFEREE MARK NELSON
Minnesota based Mark Nelson of Saint Paul was set to referee another big fight on Sunday, this time between Regie “Filipino Phenom” Suganob and the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) world light flyweight champion Sivenathi Nontshinga in Eastern Cape, South Africa. Nelson’s bags were packed last night and he was waiting for his air ticket when communication broke down. The world title fight as well as a separate WBO title fight were removed from Boxrec last night despite both Suganob and Nontshinga having made weight in South Africa yesterday.
The fight card was originally supposed to take place on June 16th before being moved to this Sunday due to financial problems. This would have been Nelson’s 108th world title fight. Now, the boxing event, including the title fight between Suganob and Nontshinga will most likely go on but the promotion will have to use referee’s located closer to South Africa due to travel time. Lisa Giampa from Las Vegas, Nevada was set to Judge but also appears to have been replaced.
